Jellyfish?

Post by Lkundert »

My daughter and I were playing by the lake and saw this white thing in the rocks. We fished it out and took pics. Anybody have an idea of what this might be?? When the whole thing was immersed the one end looked like jellyfish tendrils but the bulbous part was too firm to be a jellyfish... It's about 5" long and 2" in diameter.

Looks like a geoduck.
Dance as if no one's watching, sing as if no one's listening, and live everyday as if it were your last.

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.

Have you contacted the UBC science department yet? Because if this is a new thing in OK Lake, someone should know if it's an invasive species or not.

I just googled and found they are salt water species. But it definitely looks like one.

Might give Fisheries & Oceans a call - there's an office in Kamloops:

OP says it's five inches long, so how can that be a thumb? And the RCMP would have to see it for human DNA testing.

Is it plant or animal?

Does it react to pain?

Well it looks like an animal of some kind, or perhaps a huge egg sac. There are no eyes but it doesn't look like a plant. But if it is an animal, it's dead. I emailed the Biology department of UBCO so we'll see what they say. Thanks for all the suggestions!
