Please keep us in the loop as to what the findings are.Lkundert wrote:Well it looks like an animal of some kind, or perhaps a huge egg sac. There are no eyes but it doesn't look like a plant. But if it is an animal, it's dead. I emailed the Biology department of UBCO so we'll see what they say. Thanks for all the suggestions!
Interesting stuff.

In B.C., the Yellow Perch has been introduced to the Pend Oreille, Kootenay and Okanagan watersheds.

Correct, and only certain lakes are open to perch fishing. The goal is to stop the illegal introduction of spiny rays into other waterbodies. The only lakes open to fish for them are ones with long established infestations and are listed in the fishing regulations.Fancy wrote:

Other lakes are closed to fishing for spiny ray species (perch, bass, sunfish). Lakes where new infestations are found will be closed to fishing in an attempt to dissuade illegal introductions of invasives. See the recent article on Garnet Lake by Summerland, closed after some idiot dumped bass in it.

Interesting read too. Funny how our parents influence us, not always for the better. My dad brought home plenty of fish from his fishing trips and dear old mom would do her level best to make sure us kids were innoculated to detest lake Rainbow Trout. Just like the writer in the that story, it took years later to know what was and was not real.

Re: Jellyfish?
I heard back from UBCO and they are saying it looks like an ovary from a perch or a sucker (containing eggs before they are fertilized of course). So that makes sense. So much for my wild hypothesizing that we might have found some weird new species of who knows what! lol

Does the government still poison lakes to eradicate those introduced species?Gone_Fishin wrote:

I remember them trying it on a couple lakes although it sounds extreme.
