Or these things? Loved them the best . . . not unlike your kite experience they'd send you flying . . .

Actually I had one when I was 6 or 7 that had the ratio in the instructions with the chem set. Must of been a chem set not intended for Canadians.
75% potassium nitrate, 15% charcoal,10% sulfur.
I miss the gas powered airplanes on a string that did nearly mach 1 and got me sick from spinning in a circle at mach 1.
Also used to get those model rocket motors and strap them on gliders....which probably could reach mach 1. [icon_lol2.gif]
OMG! The plane that spun you in circles! I remember the "controls".

Strapping rocket engines to a glider? I think I like you. Pure genius.

Hard to pick a #1 out of this list.

Just imagine if they/we had PAM in those days? Could cook bacon and egg sandwiches for 60 kids easy.

Early age solar power source, from a far gone day.

You know, I think I have to try the jet engines on the glider idea, Oldtrucker. In a fire safe environment, of course.

Were you just using the balsam or styrofoam gliders? Or something more robust?

I feel like a kid again!

Lady - that's the Supersonic spinner!!!! The kid pushing would usually end up under it.
And the color choice was vital

you rich kids and your fancy stuff! We made a spinner out of a paperclip and elastic bands, put in an envelope, open and it will damn near take out and eye

And the tube you couldn't get your thumb out of

They'd get ya off balance stumbling, falling down, and puking, feeling all woozy

Just like the older kids and their alcohol

A drinkers training platform.

There was a kid living across the street with a dirtbike growing up.
It didn't take him long to realize you could pop the rear wheel off the ground and use that to really get things spinning.

Several years later, after highschool he became one of BC's top dirtbike racers.

And not an adult for miles ( well except for the Perv who liked to see up dresses)
I think the paint on the spinner was lead based :/

Consideration that it sounds like we all modified already dangerous toys making them even more deadly.

My Wife tells me I'm responsible all the time!

(Usually when something goes wrong)
My Wife asked me if I knew what her favorite flower was?
Apparently "Robin Hood All Purpose" was the wrong answer!

If only we had the internet back then.
I think the explosions would have been larger and some of us would have had more scar tissue

My mom knew I could make gunpowder from a chemistry set, so I wasn't allowed to have one.
What she did realize was my step father left his 22 bullets lying about and they disappeared quicker than ever when I found the locations.

^^ some kids had all the luck. Burnt my finger badly on a friends easy bake oven
I blame my dislike of cooking on that trauma
