One question.

Where do you put the motor?

I knew I forgot one or 2 things Alan,

What was the other thing again :135:
Oh I forgot to build in a Beer Cooler :200:

If the weather holds tomorrow it's a big day.
I will be writing the names of 5 loved ones I have lost recently, plus my biological father inside as a personal memorial.
Plus starting the skin.
I hate to say this but, this is one boat you don't want your name written in anytime soon.

I have started on the cloth
Image
My plans invove using a clearcoat ontop, so you can see the ribs showing through in the sunlight.
However I will try adding a little colour pigment to shade it a little off white.

Underneath I have added 5 out of 6 of my dedications.
Image
My moms is on the Right side of the cockpit, so she is always at my side, and my good friend Dales is on the left so he is always out for the adventure.

Things are pretty much at a standstill now until a friend of mine comes back with some artificial sinew for the remainder of the lashings and I will need his help to strech the fabric over the frame.

It does almost require 2 area codes, however this is why I like it.
Image
Almost 18 feet long with 20 ribs built like a tank mostly out of Heavy Larch and the frame weighs 30 pounds on the nose.
At the most the skin will be 10 pounds.
For a boat I should be able to take out in the ocean through some pretty big swells it's pretty light.

Good stuff Stuphoto

Mine, at 17-1/2 feet came to 40 lbs.

I still miss Flutterby.
Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

Thank you Cats,
After it's finished I will be heading to Vernon to visit another friend.
If you are free for a coffee I would love to meet up with you.
I honestly don't know if you could fit in it, but if you can you are more than welcome to take it out for a paddle.

Oh, I couldn't work out the sliding cockpit, but this shape allows me to slide forward or backward around 6 inches. The Greenland style sprayskirt is designed with this in mind.

If you have a photo of Flutterby, I would love to see her.

It Floats [icon_lol2.gif]
Image

I had it on my roofrack earlier today for a final touch before skinning it, and left it on while running out to Jewel lake for a paddle with my other kayak.
I couldn't resist taking it off for a couple photos, and loved this effect.
It honestly is floating.
Weather pending, I may take it back for a photo with a real camera early tomorrow morning then start skinning it tomorrow evening.

It should float a little higher now that I have started to skin it.
Image

I choose black thread for contrast.
Image
It's almost 1/2 stitched now.

I have some clearcoat for the paint.
I may try mixing in some brown pigment on the second coat.
So it will either be brown or white.
Either way you should see the framework in the sunlight.

Oh it's unofficial maiden voyage may be on Sunday in Jewel Lake.
So if you are there and see this boat please feel free to say Hi.

We were there last week for a night. Terrific little lake, however we thought the provincial campground was not very dog friendly compared to Texas Creek. That and the heavy timbered sites with accompanying bugs had us moving to Texas Creek for two nights.
I'll go back when I have a boat to go fishing. Love the little resort area.

The kayak looks great Stu, do hope to see it in person sometime.

Guess what is finished with the exception of the clearcoat :200:
Image
Although I had said under 40 pounds my goal was 35 pounds, and I will easily meet it.
Image
My new paddle weighs around 2 pounds so if I can keep the paint down to 1 pound I will have more than met my goal.

It's raining here so I can't do the paint until it clears.
With a little luck I will take it out in 2 days or so.
