Re: Strictly Woodwork
Hola, Still here.

This and taking the old cedar siding off to replace with hardi plank. A peak in the roof had issues so I had to sort that out and make new supports? for the new soffit material. ( stained pine T&G) Plane the fir facia down to about 1.5" thick maybe as well.
Doing this while sourcing out a fishing boat. Bit particular in what I wanted, we needed and found a 16.5 Princecraft in Chilliwack. Doggies will love it...I hope.
So, I'll be back on the trellis this week so I have room for more staining of soffit T&G.
Kathy's murder has bummed me out as well.

Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

Re: Strictly Woodwork
I made a couple of jigs today.
This one is for cutting up to 12" long /narrow boards on the miter saw.
Sometimes you just need 1 little piece for a project and it's just not worthwhile to fire up the table saw. This will help keep the piece square and sturdy, as well as make it more safe. Just a quick grip to the back fence and it's ready to go.
This one is for ripping 45 degrees on longer boards without having to readjust the table saw blade to 45 degrees and then cranking it back to 90 degrees and then squaring it up again.
Now I can make all the rails for my French cleat storage and maybe get rid of these cabinets that are 1/2 full and just wasting
precious floor space.

Re: Strictly Woodwork
Today was shop clean-up day. So now that I got it all cleaned up, I didn't feel like making a big mess, so I just made this little project for my kitchen counter.
I just spayed it with varnish, but will show you later (after the 2nd coat dries) what it is designed for.

Re: Strictly Woodwork
Here is another little accessory I made for my patio table.
Made from a couple off-cut scraps from the cutting boards/stool seats.
The twoney is just for size aspect.
It keeps the cigarette ashes from blowing all over the table and prevents any sparks from igniting in the bark mulch.

Re: Strictly Woodwork
The point I was trying to make was no matter how small the scrap, I will find a use for it.
Making these small items are just as time consuming as the bigger ones.
Both of those two pieces are made from Oak, Maple, and Walnut.......scraps from a garbage bin of a manufacturer.
I certainly wouldn't go out and spend the big $$$$ to buy hardwood to make these things.

Re: Strictly Woodwork
This morning I built a table to turn my belt sander sideways for edge and corner easing and sanding.
Up until yesterday, I have clamped the sander upside down on a table. It worked okay but it wasn't easy to use, so I made this.
Sander in place and works great.
Just made it out of some small scraps.
Easy to drop the sander in place or remove it. Keeps the edges square to the table.
It was just an experiment but I can already see that it is going to be very helpful.

Re: Strictly Woodwork
Sorry for being absent the last week everyone, and especially sorry about not meeting up with you Alan,
I got hit up with a nasty case of depression and had to get through it alone.
However I did have a good visit with Seewood last week and he gave me a few yellow cedar boards.
I was going to make a Harpoon Throwing stick to match up with my boat.
Please watch this short video on them.

Anyway I did pretty much finish the stick except for the linseed oil.

Then I got thinking earlier today, I am vegetarian so why do I want a Hunting Apparatus?
( although I will be attaching my gopro to my boat with it )
Then it hit me, I Am a Proud Canadian, and what is more Canadian than Lacrosse?
One of our 2 National Games.
So I put the 2 things together, and invented the first
Canadian / Greenland Lacrosse Throwing Stick.
Sorry for it being so crude, and it's intended to throw your dog a tennis ball while our paddling ( I have several friends with Labs, and you can't keep them out of the water )

The screw will be replaced with a dowel tomorrow.

The hinge is the week point, I should get some hardwood for it.
So thank you once again for the cedar Seewood,
Oh in a few days when I can really test it I will post a video.
A quick edit,
I have already broken a second hinge, so I think I will cheat and use a piece of c shaped aluminium.
Plus it laying flat on the harpoon stick doesn't work that well, so I am adding a dowel to hold it out at an angle.
When I find what seems to work the best I will probably make a hinged piece so I can lay it flat and still fold it out and use it in seconds.

Re: Strictly Woodwork
I don't know how I missed all of those posts, I am sorry for being absent and nonresponsive.
I was commissioned to build a very specific "side table" for use beside a BBQ.
48"W X 30"D x #6"H
I built it all out of reclaimed Yellow Cedar and had only enough waste to make a "hot pad" to go with it.
It's sitting in my living room awaiting to be picked up.
