bumped up

I have never walked into a Walmart store and I never use self checkout. So this test impo should hopefully be a complete failure.

Just one more step towards Universal basic income.

Continue to remove entry level jobs/summer jobs for students.

Most likely the ones doing the shopping for online orders.

You know, for the people who don't like the self check outs.

When I go to the Save on in the Mission there are as many online orders being filled as shoppers in the store. (Well not really but quite a few)

The problem with the Costco ones is that showing up with a full cart, which most do, is awkward. They need to have a stash of empty carts there so you can simply go from one to the other as you scan. It would minimize the need to have their staff hovering and doing the scanning. It is hardly "self-checkout".

Exactly, and until they do that it should be restricted to small orders.

Will see what they do in the new location.

I think they started turning people with full carts away.

I'm usually a light shopper, so I'm in and out of that in 4 minutes, faster if the staff member is doing it for me.

Beats the usual way by a mile.

Took my girlfriend who doesn't have a Costco card there on Friday around 11:30am. Both of us had full carts and using the regular cashier lines were only in line for 10 minutes tops.

If you're going to Costco in the next couple of weeks, grab a package of the 12 cheese buns on sale for $6.99 - DELICIOUS and loaded with cheese. Must check next time and see if that's one of the bakery products they sell frozen in bulk like the chocolate chip cookies.

On topic ... have no problem using self-serve at Walmart if I only have a few items. On days when the self-serve isn't busy and the regular cash has lineups I'll use self-serve with a full buggy.
