You would prefer a business to fail so all the employees lose their jobs??????
I was watching BNN the other day and unfortunately they had one of the schlubs from the Canadian Center for Communist Alternatives (CCPA) on, and man was she totally clued out. She was babbling away about how the current employee shortage in the work force is of course the fault of businesses who never should have laid people off in the first place (what??? What were they supposed to do, they couldn't pay people if they had no money???) which was one of the dumbest comments I've seen yet.

Absolutely zero responsibility given to the tons of government cheese being paid right now to incentivize everyone to sit on their fat butts at home doing nothing. Hello??? Man are the lunatics at the CCPA clued out. Just nuts. And yet these are the kind of people who want to push their horrible ideology on Alberta. Just so gross.

I didn't say anything like that. I am opposed in principle to people and corporations who don't care who they tromp over to benefit their own bottom line.

File under Kenney vs. Kenney.

After gifting the oil bosses $5 billion to create zero jobs, and then wasting $1.3 billion taxpayer bucks on a vapourware pipeline to nowhere . . .

. . . Kenney keeps the hits coming with a near $1 billion "investment" to bale out billionaire Murray Edwards' troubled refinery.

Tell me again how conservatives are ever-cautious with public funds. I could use the laugh. So could Albertans.

Unless they're not crying, which is what Alberta would be doing if they had been dumb enough to elect the NDP again.

"Shell Canada unveiled plans Tuesday for a new facility in Alberta to capture emissions from its industrial complex and store the greenhouse gases underground.Canada is already considered a global leader in the carbon capture and storage (CCS) industry, and the latest announcement comes amid a wave of proposals for new projects in Alberta."

https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/shell- ... -1.6099797

If approval for the facility is granted, it would be located at Shell's facility northeast of Edmonton and should not need government funding to build. The proposed plant shows that the petroleum industry is serious about reducing carbon emissions. Reducing carbon emissions, through mechanisms like carbon capture, while also moving towards renewable energy, means Canada can move forward towards meeting its climate change goals.

What we also need are governments who acknowledge that change will not happen at the flick of a switch. Eastern Canadians need to be reminded that 50% of Ontario's fuel and a slightly lesser amount of Quebec's comes from Alberta petroleum. More important for Quebec is the fact that nearly 80% of their propane is based on Alberta petroleum. It is important to note that NO political party in Canada has a Nation Energy Program in their platform, which is linked to carbon reduction AND climate change. They appear to be afraid to offend their hardcore supporters, while ignoring one of the most important things in Canada's future.

Albertans have made just two mistakes.

1) They let conservatives mismanage the province's resources for four decades, basically give the oil away to the Americans, and then let the companies offload the costs of well cleanup onto the taxpayers. All while putting almost nothing away for a rainy day.

2) They elected a bible school flunk-out who has never held a real job to fix it.

They made one mistake - they elected the NDP. Let's hope that they never do that again.

Bang on, crookedmember. Electing the incompetent Kenney and the UCP was definitely a huge mistake, seconded only by the mistake of letting various conservative governments run Alberta’s economy into the ground. Thankfully it looks like the NDP will be elected again now that Albertans have realized how disastrous right wing governments have been for their province.

They didn't mismanage anything. This is just another stupid lie that the Left always tells. Next they'll try to compare Alberta, a land-locked province in a federal nation, to Norway, an autonomous nation with sea access to the highest price oil market in the world, and claim that somehow Alberta failed because they aren't Norway. No one wants to live in Norway. They have some of the stupidest, highest taxes in the developed world. But these bozos somehow want you to believe that Alberta should be like Norway. It's beyond dumb, it's nonsensical.

"selling oil to the US" - who else was Alberta supposed to sell it to? Australia?? SO DUMB.

Agreed. Canada could fill more demand with additional pipelines as well.

They gave away all of the conventional oil for a pittance.

They didn't assure that companies covered the cleanup costs for abandoned wells and infrastructure, and now taxpayers are on the hook for hundreds of billions in liabilities.

They haven't put a dime into the Heritage Fund since '82. Instead they wasted the cash on Ralph Bucks, tax cuts for corporations and vapourware pipelines to nowhere. So instead of having a trillion bucks like Norway’s sovereign wealth fund, they have next to nothing.

God gave them one of the largest resource gifts on the planet, and they squandered it. Now they're begging Ottawa to bail them out.

This is what happens when you let drunks and backwater bumpkins run a province.

No they didn't.

What did I tell you about Norway? Like clockwork.

No, they didn't squander it. They did great things with their gifts, and still are. Too bad the Feds squandered all of those mega-billions of royalties, and mega billions more by not allowing East-West pipelines.

This is what happens when you let drunks and backwater bumpkins run a province.
I agree, Notley did a terrible job, but other than the NDP for four years, Alberta has been run pretty well. Way to go guys!

It will be interesting to see what Jason Kenney and the UCP and their little doggie on a leash CPC think of the EU CBAM - especially as the Liberal government is considering going the same route (as is Japan). Methinks Canada and Japan will let the EU duke it out with the WTO issues before proceeding, but will indeed follow suit. Biden might even give it a go, as Biden has a bit of a protectionist streak....and it would add to his climate change action creds.

The move toward CBAMs may be part of the motivation for Shell investing in carbon capture. Certainly the writing is on the wall and looks like CBAMs will become common.

Assuming CBAMs get by the WTO scrap that is likely to follow, if Alberta is smart about it, it could generate a lot of good jobs in Alberta as the refits and projects would be many...
The middle path - everything in moderation, and everything in its time and order.
