Liberals’ use of parliamentary funds prompts recall of ethics committee

Time to probe the thieving Liberals again.

Liberals’ use of parliamentary funds prompts recall of ethics committee

The House of Commons ethics committee is being recalled to discuss whether to investigate the hiring with parliamentary funds of two companies that are also central to the Liberal Party’s digital campaign operations.

The Globe and Mail reported Monday that NGP VAN, a U.S. database software company that runs Liberal digital voter outreach, has been paid $1-million from parliamentary funds since 2016 to exclusively handle constituency case work for party MPs.

Payments have also been received by Data Sciences, a Montreal-based company that oversees the Liberal Party’s digital operations during elections, to help Liberal MPs use NGP VAN software. In campaigns, Data Sciences works with NGP VAN on digital election activities. The Globe recently reported that both companies are working together on constituency business for Liberal MPs.

House of Commons rules require MPs to use taxpayer resources for parliamentary purposes only and not to subsidize the operations of political parties or re-election campaigns. The Liberals say the spending is purely for constituency outreach services, which is an allowed expense.

“Data Sciences was founded by Tom Pitfield, Justin Trudeau childhood friend and senior Liberal campaign strategist … NGP VAN is the company the Liberal Party of Canada licenses to run their political database, Liberalist,” they wrote to Mr. Warkentin.

“It is extremely concerning that there is a co-ordinated Liberal campaign to send taxpayers dollars to these Liberal insiders.”

The MPs say the committee needs to call witnesses, including Mr. Pitfield, to determine whether the Liberals are using taxpayers money directly or indirectly to help their re-election.

“Who in the government instructed Liberal MPs to send taxpayer money to Mr. Trudeau’s childhood friend? When did Mr. Pitfield start receiving taxpayer money? How much money has Mr. Pitfield made to date from Liberals MPs?” they wrote.

Ask yourself why the Liberals are trying to conceal their funneling of your money to another of Trudeau's close friends.

If it was all on the up-and-up, they wouldn't be in a full fledged panic to suppress the details.

Liberals filibuster opposition call for inquiry into parliamentary funds paid to Trudeau’s close friend

Liberal MPs on Monday filibustered an attempt by opposition parties to hear testimony from the party’s chief digital campaign strategist regarding constituency work that his company is being paid by taxpayers to perform.

The House of Commons ethics committee had been recalled during Parliament’s summer break to discuss whether to investigate the hiring with parliamentary funds of two companies – Montreal-based Data Sciences and U.S company NGP VAN – that are also central to the Liberal Party’s voter-outreach operations.

Conservative, NDP and Bloc Québécois MPs particularly wanted to hear from Tom Pitfield, the founder of Data Sciences and a close friend of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. His company works with NGP VAN during election campaigns and The Globe and Mail has revealed that both companies are also being paid to do constituency work for Liberal MPs out of parliamentary budgets.

The Globe reported last week that NGP VAN, a U.S. database software company that runs Liberal digital voter outreach, has been paid $1-million from parliamentary funds since 2016 to exclusively handle constituency case work for party MPs. Payments have also been received by Data Sciences to help Liberal MPs use NGP VAN software.

The opposition wanted Mr. Pitfield to appear before the ethics committee later this week for two hours of testimony, but Liberal MPs prevented the motion from coming to a vote by talking out the clock. After more than five hours of debate Monday, the Liberals voted to adjourn with support from the Bloc.

Filibustering, or delaying votes by prolonged debate, is a tactic members of the governing Liberal caucus have repeatedly used in recent months, including on the Commons’ health, defence and foreign-affairs committees. It’s been used to stymie efforts by opposition parties to demand more information.

The Conservatives accused the Liberals of blocking scrutiny over their Data Sciences and NGP VAN contracts. “Canadians have seen this playbook from the Trudeau Liberals time and time again,” Conservative MP Michael Barrett said in a statement after the marathon meeting.

“They will go to great lengths to hide the truth from Canadians. There is more to this scheme than … Liberals are telling Canadians.”

The House of Commons Ethics Committee.
Who would have guessed they would be needed again? :200:
I'm posting this from Traditional lands of the British Empire & the current Lands of The Dominion of Canada.
I also give thanks for this ethos richness bestowed on us via British Colonialism.

Criteria has been met for another ethics scandal investigation by the Commissioner.

Mr Dion is certainly earning his money with Justin Trudeau around.

Another Trudeau probe?

Ethics watchdog reviews request to investigate Trudeau over Data Sciences payments

The federal ethics watchdog is reviewing a request to investigate Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over payments his MPs offices made to a company owned by his friend.

Conservative MP Michael Barrett wrote to ethics commissioner Mario Dion asking he launch an inquiry into the prime minister's possible involvement in awarding contracts to Data Sciences Inc.

The company was founded by Tom Pitfield, a childhood friend of Trudeau's, who served as the Liberal party's chief digital strategist during the 2015 and 2019 election campaigns.

The Globe and Mail reported last month that MPs’ expenditure reports showed most of the Liberal caucus had paid money through their office budgets to the company, which has also been hired to provide digital services to the Liberal Party of Canada.

Dion replied in his own letter Wednesday that the criteria for making such a request has been met, and he has forwarded it on to the prime minister.

Big deal..........that's politics, both sides are equally guilty of doing the same thing, it's a matter of who gets the request into the toothless Ethics Commissioner first or gets found out first.

I don't remember any but maybe Foenix maybe you could fill us in on any Ethics investigations the commissioner has completed on the Conservatives and the outcomes. I do know of a few guilty ones for JT and the Liberals.
