Pursuant to the Emergency Program Act, an Evacuation Alert has been issued by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) due to the Inkaneep Creek wildfire in Electoral Area C and the Town of Oliver for lands within the boundary of the town.

I narrowed this one down to the remote detections on the last MODIS pass. The view from space at 11:30 pm on *checks calendar* July 19th. Looks like Inkaneep did a 7 km march.

It's extremely threatened grassland/antelope sagebush (which feeds hundreds of birds and insects), ponderosa pine and assorted berry producing bushes. Vineyards have pushed out most native species as has the blight on Osoyoos Lake called The Cottages. Some heritage structures called the Haynes Ranch complex remain on some small protected area and the Ox Bows eco-system sustain what little wildlife can cling to life it can. Many migrating birds use it heavily Spring and Fall.

There is a walkin regional Nature protected area with pictographs which were destroyed by vandals last year.

Is 7 km unusual for fire behaviour? It sure sounds like it was travelling unusually fast, but I've no idea what's common.

A bit but the terrain there is not heavy forest. Lots of brush.
Add wind and it can move very very fast. Just like in Cali.

And to add, the skimmers have left Penticton for the battle. Hope the boaters get their heads out of their..... :swear:
