Re: Defund the CBC
Interesting to see the CBC less dainty with the Trudeau Liberals.

This is one of his stories, and it contains criticism of current news practices:Jorge Barrera is a Caracas-born, award-winning journalist who has worked across the country and internationally. He works for CBC's Indigenous unit based out of Ottawa.

Re: Defund the CBC
The big problem for the CBC : it is trying to be too many things to too few people.
CBC Radio 1;CBC 2; CBC Radio 3; Gem; plus 2 tv networks...Managed by people who are not media savy, and are focused on political correctness.
Too focused on Trudeau, the Liberals, and those who feel they have been wronged.
Isn't it the same in the U.S.? TV networks supporting their flavour of the month. Many stories that should appear on U.S. networks never do for fear of offending sponsors.
Even the BBC has gone soft on important news.It is funded by a tax.
RT America has some good stuff, but is only one of many. Strangley enough, the press secretary for Joe Biden accuses it of" having a bias" Funny! Don't they all?
By the way, check the bias of the poll questions concerning the CBC.

Re: Defund the CBC
A CBC ex-spurt. The bar is set very low at the CBC.
Crazy times we live in.
Crazy times we live in.
Doctor cited as ‘expert’ by CBC never disclosed large donations to NDP
CBC has claimed that they were unaware that Calgary emergency physician Dr. Joe Vipond was an “NDP supporter” when quoting him as an expert source in numerous articles.
As exclusively reported by True North, Alberta elections finance data revealed that Dr. Vipond has donated nearly $20,000 to the Alberta NDP since 2014.
In an emailed statement, CBC Head of Public Affairs Chuck Thompson addressed Dr. Vipond’s ties.
“In the spirit of full transparency, we didn’t know he was an NDP supporter. We talked to him as a well respected medical professional (for example in the mask opinion piece) and looked to him for that advice and expertise…which is strongly backed by other doctors,” Thompson told True North.
Dr. Vipond has been a vocal and regular critic of Alberta’s ruling UCP government. In one social media post dated July 28, 2021, Dr. Vipond tweeted about “taking to the streets and toppling” Jason Kenney’s government in response to the lifting of quarantine public health orders in the province.
Most recently, Dr. Vipond called for the resignation of Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw for her role in the decision to lift the orders and has led several pro-lockdown rallies.
He has also repeatedly denied any association with the Alberta NDP, claiming that he was an “independent practitioner with no ties to the NDP” and that accusing him of being an NDP activist could be “considered slander.”

Of course they did. Justin's instructions to the CBC: "Keep them in the dark."
CBC omitted First Nations bands from industries to be affected by mandatory vaccines
A CBC News report on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s announcement that his government would pursue making vaccines mandatory for federally-regulated industries omitted the fact that the mandate would also apply to First Nations bands and services.
The August 5 CBC article, titled “Trudeau asks top public servant to look into mandatory vaccination for federal workers,” made no mention of First Nations communities when listing impacted groups and sectors.

That's a rather unthinking reach. FN bands are not "industries". Employees of FNs are not federal employees. FNs will make their own decisions.Gone_Fishin wrote: ↑Aug 13th, 2021, 11:10 am Of course they did. Justin's instructions to the CBC: "Keep them in the dark."

Your conspiracy theory of the CBC "following Justin's instructions" has more holes than a sieve.

I guess Liberals have to react BEFORE they read. Assuming they can read, that is.
First Nations band councils and some reserve services are federally regulated.
List of federally regulated industries and workplaces
The Canada Labour Code (the Code) regulates the following industries and workplaces:
Federally regulated private sectors (parts I, II, III and IV of the Code):
air transportation, including airlines, airports, aerodromes and aircraft operations
banks, including authorized foreign banks
grain elevators, feed and seed mills, feed warehouses and grain-seed cleaning plants
first Nations band councils (including certain community services on reserve)
most federal Crown corporations, for example, Canada Post Corporation
port services, marine shipping, ferries, tunnels, canals, bridges and pipelines (oil and gas) that cross international or provincial borders
radio and television broadcasting
railways that cross provincial or international borders and some short-line railways
road transportation services, including trucks and buses, that cross provincial or international borders
telecommunications, such as, telephone, Internet, telegraph and cable systems
uranium mining and processing and atomic energy
any business that is vital, essential or integral to the operation of one of the above activities

In an email to True North, a CBC spokesperson said the article merely highlighted “some” affected areas.
“The story was a very broad overview of a new proposal, and highlighted some areas but obviously not every area. As this story continues to unfold and policies firm up, we will report on potential impacts where relevant,” CBC spokesperson Chuck Thompson said.

The people have spoken.
What should happen to the CBC's federal funding?
Total Votes: 13314
Increase it 16.33%
Keep it the same 22.45%
Decrease it 9.85%
Eliminate it 43.68%
Unsure 7.69%

Re: Defund the CBC
Where did the money go? How many of Trudeau's wealthy friends plumped their wallets this time?
Throwing our money to Trudeau's friends in the media must stop.
Throwing our money to Trudeau's friends in the media must stop.
Overseers of $50 million local journalism subsidy won’t say how money was distributed
The media associations trusted with overseeing the Liberal government’s $50 million subsidy for local journalists are unable to provide the exact amount dozens of legacy media outlets received under the taxpayer-funded program.
Among the mainstream media outlets participating in the subsidized hiring program are Canada’s National Observer, the Chronicle Herald, the Narwhal, the Tyee and Nunatsiaq News.
Last week, officials with the Department of Canadian Heritage told True North they did not keep records of the salaries, positions or outlets of the journalists hired on the public’s dime under the Local Journalism Initiative (LJI). Instead, the government tasked seven “administrator organizations” to select who would be receiving the subsidy intended for hiring local journalists and paying freelance reporters.
To track down how much each outlet exactly received as part of these grants to fund journalists at the expense of taxpayers, True North reached out to the above groups.
None of these administrator organizations was able to provide a complete list that included the outlet, positions created, and amount paid.
News Media Canada LJI Director Tina Ongkekok pointed to the group’s website which features a guide of “2021 Host News Organizations.” The list includes the names of the outlets and the created positions, but makes no mention how much each received in funding.
snip
Additionally, although the program has been in operation since at least 2018, News Media Canada did not respond to further questions about funding recipients from past years.
Similarly, True North was also directed by the Community Radio Fund of Canada to a list of radio stations that received funding through the LJI. While the list names the 28 stations which received public funds, there is virtually no information about how much was distributed and what kind of positions were hired on the public dime.
Further attempts to receive more detailed information from the Community Radio Fund of Canada about the exact amount distributed in subsidies went unanswered.

Does CBC see the writing on the wall?
Even Aaron Wherry, Trudeau's favourite CBC lackey, has come out questioning Trudeau's election call.

Still plenty of time for JT to come out as non-binary.
Put a Liberal sign on your lawn I can see the paint ball guns coming out, they aren't prohibited yet under Trudeau's faux "crime & gun control".
Here is a newly developed category by these liberals. " Birthing person." Seriously...?
Good News!! Freeland assures us the Canadian mint is fully stocked on ink and paper! We are in great shape. Don Pittis agrees.
The National Anthem no longer read “We stand on guard for thee” It now reads “Come across and live for free”
And on and on it goes.
Plenty of comments that would be very humourous if not so scary.
