How many Canadians died needlessly while we waited?
And oddly enough the Libs won't disclose the cost of their late vaccine purchases

Extremely poorly. Justin Trudeau is an arrogant disgusting imbecile. A giant blight on the entire country. A true disgusting mistake. He's an arrogant racist piece of garbage. Canada can't wait to rid ourselves of such a disgusting piece of garbage. Good bye Justin!! You suck!!

Actually, we were in the same slow start G7 boat as Germany, France, Italy due to the Pfizer plant retooling. The outliers were the US and UK because they manufacture the vaccine.

But we've pulled far ahead of them now, especially the US where 45% have not received a single dose and the variants are now on fire. People are dying at a terrible rate.

I know some of you hope for failure, but Trudeau beat all of the original targets promised, and then beat them by a wide margin.

Thanks, Trudeau! Four more years!

Canada has now surpassed the U.S in the number of people vaccinated against Covid, but that has nothing to do with any initiative by Trudeau.. In the U.S anyone that wanted to be fully vaccinated was fully vaccinated months ago, the only reason Canada has now surpassed the U.S is because of the huge numbers of Americans that are refusing to be vaccinated.

I was reading the online version of The Province newspaper, when I came across an article pointing out that Jagmeet Singh’s high polling numbers compared to Trudeau’s indicate that the NDP may garner enough votes to deny Trudeau a majority.

The article went on to discuss how, for many, the likeableness or otherwise of the Leader frequently influences the way people vote, more so than the policies that Leader is proposing.

Wacky, but true. One has only to read through the posts on these forums to realize that.

The article then pointed out how, despite the Trudeau Government’s obvious incompetence, there are many who still intend to give them their vote
There is an abundance of evidence that the Liberals are not particularly good at being the government. A new report by the parliamentary committee on Government Operations, which was tabled late Wednesday, is damning about a multi-million dollar contract for security screening equipment at Canada’s embassies around the world that was awarded to a state-owned Chinese company, Nutech. The decision to hand over a sensitive information technology/security contract to a company ultimately answerable to the Chinese Communist Party just because it was the lowest bidder raises all sorts of questions about the procurement process, not least of which is why the Communications Security Establishment is not involved in such supply chain decisions unless it is asked to be.

The committee recommended that value propositions other than price be considered in future and that state-owned Chinese enterprises be prohibited from bidding on such sensitive federal contracts.
https://theprovince.com/opinion/john-iv ... a5f2e06480

Given the Trudeau Liberals love affair with the Chinese Government, I have to wonder if they’ll heed the committee’s advice. But, given the number of folks who still see Trudeau as their “hero”, maybe Canadians don’t really care much about things like National security anymore.

Trudeau is decimating our Parliamentary system of democracy, completely ignoring our ethics laws, and allowing the Chinese Government access to our state secrets. But I don’t hear much Public outrage about ANY of that.

Why not?

Man! It feels great to be #1 and thank you JT for helping us do just that. I don't there is PM in History of Canada that can say that they were the PM when Canada was ranked #1 in the world.

Canada is the No. 1 Country in the World, According to the 2021 Best Countries Report

For the first time, Canada is the No. 1 overall country. Japan and Germany finish Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, while Switzerland, the previous No. 1 overall country, falls to No. 4. Australia remains as the No. 5 overall country followed by the United States, which rises one position to No. 6 overall.

Canada ranks No. 1 in quality of life and social purpose. It is also perceived as having a good job market, caring about human rights and is committed to social justice. Additionally, the country finished No. 1 in being viewed as not corrupt and respecting property rights.

Social justice is a global ambition. Eighty percent of global citizens feel aligned with social justice, a broad term that refers to movements calling for addressing racial and gender inequities, while 76% also agree that a country is stronger when it is more racially and ethnically diverse. Canada and the Nordic countries are viewed as the most committed to social justice, while the U.S. sits at No. 18. And on the specific topic of racial equality, the U.S. only manages to achieve No. 69, behind both China and Iraq.

Women are viewed as effective leaders. Eighty-three percent of global citizens believe there is a leadership crisis in the world today. The majority of respondents view women leaders in a positive light, as 68% agree that countries led by women tend to be better managed.

A nation's perceived agility is the most important driver of strength in 2021. Across the countries measured, agility accounts for per capita GDP variations the most – underscoring that it is essential for any country to be seen as adaptable, progressive and responsive. The new Agility subranking carries the greatest weight among the 10 subrankings. The U.S. leads the world in perceived agility, but is not among the top 10 in adaptability, coming in at No. 13 on this attribute.

The influence of conspiracy theories. A majority of respondents (75%) agree that conspiracy theories are a threat to society. However, 39% believe that governments have made up the COVID-19 pandemic to control their citizens.

Just reading on Castanet that Covid cases are spiking in America, and wondering WHY Trudeau has chosen this particular moment to reopen our border to American tourists?
Across the U.S., the seven-day rolling average for daily new cases in the U.S. rose over the past two weeks to more than 37,000 on Tuesday, up from less than 13,700 on July 6. Health officials blame the delta variant and flattening vaccination rates. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says 56.2 per cent of Americans have gotten at least one dose of a vaccine.

Cross-border tourism is a big income for both countries, and boosting the economy is high on the priority list everywhere. It's nice to see things achieving another step closer to "normal". I'm okay with this as currently entry is available only to fully vaccinated travelers. The spikes in the US, and likely soon to follow in Canada, appear to be restricted to un-vaccinated people.

Then you should be thankful that JT gave a consistent message of encouraging people to vaccinate and not be an anchor in that effort like someone in the US was.

It's not how one starts it's how we finish and save live!! Way to go JT!! :130:

Fully vaccinated travellers can still catch and pass the virus on. All the vaccine does is lower their chance of developing symptoms, and/or requiring hospital care.

Because the hotspots in the US are the unvaccinated Bible belt and the stupid conservative southern states. The states close to the border like Washington, Michigan and New York have similar high vaccination rates like us. Those are the states most of our visitors come from.

We have a smart government and smart public servants, and I expect they'll monitor the opening closely and take action if needed.

Rest assured that unlike parts of the US, Trudeau does not make decisions based on what the idiot hosts on Fox "News" are blathering.

Perhaps they just don't see the issues as seriously as some would like them to ? The first thing I like to do when faced by opinion pieces like the one you quoted is check the source. John Ivison has been described as "a boomer hack who specializes in producing rage-bait for Postmedia". Strike one. The contracts are for the purchase of equipment only, and Canada's minister of foreign affairs has promised to review said contracts as information becomes available and look at "any possible issue relative to security or safety … all appropriate actions (will be) taken to ensure the safety of our missions around the world."

I agree there is a trade-off, but if the threat of serious illness is no longer relevant then why not get things moving again ? The problem is un-vaccinated people, and the sooner we get vaccinations out to more people the better. If restrictions on un-vaccinated people will help achieve this then it will do more good than harm in my mind.

Yet Trudeau is crickets on the U.S still not allowing fully vaccinated Canadians to drive across the border into the U.S..... Trudeau is also crickets on the fact that thousands of completely unvaccinated Americans have been allowed to spend a week or so traveling through western Canada going back and forth between the lower 48 and Alaska, spreading their Covid germs while staying in our motels, eating in restaurants, shopping in our stores etc... Trudeau was only concerned with punishing Canadians that disobeyed his recommendation to not travel by implementing his ridiculous hotel prison quarantine punishment, while at the same time Americans traveling to and from Alaska were completely exempt from having to follow any Covid safety protocols Canadians were subjected too.
ETA: Having said that, Americans traveling to and from Alaska were not allowed to go on a sightseeing excursion through Canada, they were given one week to travel directly to and from Alaska, but quite obviously a good number of stops for food, fuel and sleep are obviously required during that trip through Canada.
