How many times have we all suddenly wondered if we had turned off the stove or locked the door.
Then rushed back only to find out we had.

I would rule this story as nothing more than that.

Besides forgetting a bolt would have caused the collapse while erecting or during use. Not during dismantling it.
You are not going to remove a bolt below the point you are working at.

This is exactly what happened in the deadly Google crane collapse in Seattle. Pins/bolts were prematurely removed.

Those that don’t know anything about crane dismantling commenting about not removing bolts replacing bolts etc. Couldn’t be me. I make sure my info is correct before typing away.

I’ve worked in construction 20 + years. Have been a safety officer for 16 of those 20 years. I’m Kelowna for 12. Have been apart of many set up takedowns. 4 bolts hold the erection together. You remove the bolts to take the erection down. I’m just sayin.

Are you saying the castanet forum members are not the experts they claim to be?

Well, Bsuds, had a front row seat to the catastrophe… can’t say much. But I can say I’m pretty disgusted by the content of some posts.

There also was a massive wind gust too.

I am leaning toward pins in the critical holes... Bolts generally have clearance, except for shoulder bolts. Clearance would lead to a sloppy fit. So I am thinking the treated pins in closely fit holes.... would be the choice... :smt045

A proper investigation will take a long time with all the various authorities, not just WorkSafe.

I rather see slow with proper due diligence then fast and sloppy

I agree. The investigation will take as long as it takes. There wont be any measure of emotion or feeling sorry or the truth being "slander". The fact of the matter is that a crane collapsed because of the human error of the crew. Not wind - not act of god or anything else. IMO I hope that Worksafe hammers down on inexperienced crews operating a tear down. Especially when civilians and millions of dollars of commercial and residential property is close by. Opening a company so you can bill yourself after buying the equipment proved to be a disaster. Opening a shell company for heavy equipment is 1 thing - but cranes is totally another.

You can think whatever you want.
Bottom line is, most will let the investigators determine cause and make recommendations.
Its not the job of the armchair critics on here...
