Anyone ever live in Grand Forks, BC?

They did have a huge deer problem downtown.. dont know if it has improved.
Nice rail trail for biking along the river... nice swimming hole at the east end of town by the old train bridge..

Oh..If you move to Grand Forks you might die of boredom.
This reminds me of a story, I had with my Philosophy prof a number of years ago.
He was leaving Kelowna for the cold of Saskatchewan.
I asked" why would you make such a move?"
I thought his reply was interesting:
In Kelowna, I teach 8/10 hours per day;
I sleep 8 hours per day.
This leaves about 6 hours a day for eating and other activities.
The same in Kelowna as Saskatchewan.
Die of boredom?,regardless of where you are.It is all about attitude!

I love Grand Forks its a fantastic little place. However its probably not a good choice for city oriented people obviously. As for dying of boredom, that would be on you. Got to learn to keep yourself occupied and make do with what you got. Grand Forks is great for outdoorsy stuff, the North Fork is basically your backyard. Its not directly located on a lake, but Christina Lake is a short drive away. You could also bike to Christina Lake on the Trans Canada Trail. Swimming in the river is an option too, good opportunities for that. You can hike up Observation Mountain and overlook the city, just like Knox Mountain. Downtown is pretty vibrant and quite busy for its size. They have the perfect climate in my opinion, usually a little warmer in the day and colder at night than the Okanagan, with a little more rain and snow. More hours of sun too. This would be most beneficial in the summer, more night time cooling during heat waves. Overall its still the exact same semi arid Ponderosa Pine type climate.

I will say that Grand Forks has been a bit stagnant in recent years, the city population has levelled off in the last few censuses, remaining around 4,000. This was after a fair amount of growth and change in the 1980s and 1990s. It will be interesting to see the results of the 2021 census, that will tell what impact the flood had on population. I'm thinking it went down, but hopefully not as far as 3,500.

They are probably one of the biggest places in Canada to not have a Tim Hortons. There have been several proposals to build one but all have failed. One proposal had a combination Tim Hortons and Esso gas station, and even that one failed. Would have been a great development for the town.

There is a Tim Hortons being built in Grand Forks as I type. We much prefer the little drive through place called “Jitterz”. Friendly faces, and terrific coffee. Fun thing, just this morning the customer in line ahead of me bought my coffee.
We did the same thing a couple of weeks back when an ambulance with 2 attendants pulled up in line behind us.

That is an outright Lie,
Christina Lake is in Saskatchewan.
And that is what I tell everyone especially if they are from Alberta.
We don't want to ruin another good thing.

Seriously though, seems like nice place. Would be very appealing to some, but I'm a big city boy and I couldn't handle it. But hey, if its your cup of tea I'm sure it would be a fantastic place and thats all that matters

I do know a few people that have lived there, and they had no complaints.
