What we can expect in the third millennium

Post by Ka-El »

As a futurist I believe we are going to see some amazing and incredible developments in the next 100 years. With the acceleration in the rate of technological advancement already underway, I think we are going to see some incredible advances made even in the next ten years (our development and use of virtual communication, for example, increased dramatically over the last couple of years due to the pandemic). This accelerated rate of change is going to present humankind with significant economic and social challenges, but some of what might be possible is very exciting.
20 events we can expect in the third millennium

Humans have tried to predict the future for thousands of years, with limited success. “We’re usually pretty bad at it, but there’s always been a Cassandra or a Delphic oracle, a Sibyl or a Nostradamus willing to make the attempt,” according to Futurism. Some speculative fiction has been surprisingly accurate; the 1962 comic strip The Jetsons, set in 2062, predicted the rise of video calls and flat-screen TVs. Here is some of what humanity might expect in the year 2100 and in the year 3000, according to climate and space scientists and futurists.

Besides, we've already had a documentary series on the year 3000:

There are going to be challenges, but a paradigm shift is already underway. Out of this chaos and pain will emerge a new social and political system necessarily based more on globally cooperative rather than competitive models. We know we already have the capacity to feed, house and educate the entire world population but for our failing "free market" system. Our continued survival as a civilized species will depend on our ability to adapt and I am optimistic that we will.

Lets review each slide. Personally, I would have expected better material from these 'futurists'. A fair bit are just propaganda, obvious, or bad guesses. One thing I would like to speculate on is how mankind's appearance will change in 10,000 years. The slides in the MSN link are bordering on ridiculae.

Slide 2/21: Ocean level rise of 0.6m to 2.13m. This is based on RCP8.5 and has been debunked but still used by alarmists. Ocean level is rising as it always has. If you'd like to see high ocean levels, you can also visit the past.

https://wattsupwiththat.com/2021/08/24/ ... years-ago/

Slide 3/21: A noticeably warmer earth "anywhere from 3.5 to more than 8 degrees". This too is based on the debunked and virtually impossible modelling in the RCP8.5.

Slide 4/21: Overall climate shift!! More garbage unsubstantiated faux-climate science.

**note** BEWARE! This slide show is more propaganda than prediction.

Slide 5/21: Humans will live longer. People will reach 125 or 150 depending on who you ask. Of course "Our governing structures, public welfare systems, and workplaces weren’t designed for people who live 120 years or longer" society as we know today will have to be deconstructed and we have to bring in a far left government. Popular mechanics predicts by 2122 someone will have hit 150. Amazing precision in the choice of year. Absolutely amazing.

**note** At this point, the LSD is starting to show.

Slide 6/21: Dilution of skin color - extra heat and UV radiation will see to this. I thought we fixed the ozone layer??

Slide 7/21: Larger babies, larger adults. People will become bigger and weaker, declining physically, and lose key social and interactive skills because of an over-dependence on technology and medical interventions. This is a prediction?? lol.
My thought is it is difficult to know what mans appearance will be like 10,000 years from now. Albeit different, but in what random way mutation serves. Viruses are the main source of mutation and our current society is working hard to suppress it.

Slide 8/21: Evolution favors the pretty. Evolution will change in the future? People will start to like symmetrical faces... I suppose this means you don't have an eyeball on the left top of your forehead.

Slide 9/21: There will be more data in the future. Pfffffft, oh come on!

**NOTE** I am seeing propaganda and click bait.

Slide 10/21: Synthetic meat will become widespread! 35% by 2035 will be artificial. That is the worst guess I've ever seen.

Slide 11/21: Self driving cars. I've seen people say this will take over everything by 2025. People don't understand how difficult the technology is. Now it is on a back-burner since too many pedestrians have been run over. Self driving cars will be main-stream in 2032 according to this authors guess. Good luck on that. Highly unlikely according to the conservative that engineers smart devices.

Slide 12/21: Decades or centuries from finding extraterrestrial life. Not bacteria, but real aliens capable of travel. According to "Helen Maynard-Casely" this has gotta happen! Well, you have until the year 3000 so keep trying.

Slide 13/21: Popular Mechanics speculates that by the year 2122, advances in medical science will allow doctors to insert chips in the human body to monitor bodily functions. What is it with Popular Mechanics and the year 2122?? LOL. People today have experimented with electronic sensors. All sorts of bio-hacking is happening today.

Slide 14/21: By 2122, Popular Mechanics believes that the human connectome will be mapped. Here comes Popular Mechanics and their favorite year. lol.

Slide 15/21: Humans will go to mars and settle there. I don't know about settling. The human body is designed for earths gravity and you can't permanently live away from earth without having a very short life. I doubt this will happen by 2033 or 2076. Sorry "New Scientist", I don't agree with you that thousands will live in Mars in 2076.

Slide 16/21: Telepathy based on electronic intervention. Hmmm, one of the first serious slides, if we can detect simple yes/no thoughts, can we induce those thoughts too. Good question. That'd be an extreme bio-hack. Not practical in the next 50 years probably.

Slide 17/21: There will be far fewer languages in the world. Yup, they aren't making new languages anymore. Obscure languages will disappear. Is this a serious prediction? Seems somewhat obvious.

Slide 18/21: Computers will gain human-level ability (and out-smart them) by 2050! Ok, now I know you are pulling my chain. This is definitely bit-bait. We have many centuries to go towards realizing general AI and has less to do with raw speed and storage space.

Slide 19/21: Humans will be able to create living organisms in a lab (by 2076??). Here comes "New Scientist" again. Good try. I really doubt this especially if one is starting from scratch by that year 2076 again. What is it with "New Scientist" and the year 2076? lol

Slide 20/21: 3D printers will allow people to make things. (no sheet) Skyscrapers by 2116. Not 2115, or 2117, but 2116. lol. The way in which predictors try to appear smart at least looks ridiculous. I would ease up the accuracy to fewer digits if you want to be right or give a range or something like 2110 to 2120.

Slide 21/21: The sun will not explode by 3000. A poor prediction since it is so obvious. Unless something catastrophic happens... but if the sun shines as normal... another few billion years would be nice.

What I'm afraid of mostly is the proliferation of socialism. I came here to escape it, and it appears to be following me. :-X

How will the human evolve,
It has now been discovered along with the First *bleep* habilis about 2.5 million years ago, there was also roughly 2 million years ago, two supernovaes exploded so close to Earth that they showered our pale blue dot with debris, leaving behind traces of radioactive iron-60 found buried in the sea floor across the globe and even mixed within the dust layers on the moon.
These supernovas also release gamma rays that can cause dna damage and mutations. These two supervovas based on their estimated timing and our evolution may have been the kick start for how human evolved to where we are today by causing mutations in whatever was running around at the time.

All to say how we evolve in the future may be left to whether something happens in the Universe that we obviously have no control over.
You can see the past but cannot go there, you cannot see the future but you can go there.

Paradigms based on infinite growth and consumption are doomed to failure. Thankfully, we recognized this years ago and long ago introduced social safety measures in our mixed economy to sustain our free market system. Regrettably, many of these measures are simply no longer robust enough to ensure everyone has opportunity to participate in our societies. Fortunately, there is a growing recognition of the problems being created and sustained by our socioeconomic systems as they exist today, and that continued peaceful economic and social evolution will require a paradigm shift that reflects the growing global interdependence. This will not require the adaptation of socialism, but it will require a greater recognition of the fact that we will all do better when we are all allowed to do better. Professional sports leagues have long recognized the need for parity to keep their leagues alive. I am hoping for a future where no one is marginalized and everyone is able to participate.

Who isn't able to participate in developed nations? We don't have room for everyone to immigrate and trying to fix other countries never goes to plan.

So who are we currently excluding from succeeding? Or is your comment more directed towards ensuring everyone has the same amount of success, not the same as chance to succeed.

There is a difference between leveling the playing field between competition and forcing everyone to be on the same level.
