Re: Warning for most c Pap users!
I did some quick research when binky posted and it seems quite valid and I'm sure pretty concerning for her.
I have a friend who uses a cpap and let him know but he uses a different brand machine.
I used to be in a band called "The Missing Cats"

Here's the website:

Hopefully if the machines are replaced every five years as suggested there won't be extensive harm done - or any.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-sco ... -1.6113470Dr. Alex Nelson, a respirologist with a sub-specialty in sleep medicine at the QEII Health Centre in Halifax, estimates he prescribed Philips machines to 70 per cent of his patients over the last five years.
"It's certainly been a big headache at our end in terms of getting in contact with everyone and trying to come up with a plan," he said Thursday.
He said he has never heard of a patient developing symptoms after using the device, but he does not know the long-term effect if they were to inhale foam particles. "The actual reported events are very, very small," he said. "What effect that might have over five to 10 years? We don't know."
For now, he said the benefit outweighs the risk. He's telling all patients, except those with mild sleep apnea symptoms, to keep using the devices.

After ten years of using their toxic machines, the damage is done. Even prior to this machine I used another recalled machine.
The ministry will only cover a machine once every seven years. Not everyone has 2K in their back pocket.

There's been lots of "normal responses". You might consider getting some tests done to see if there IS any damage.

I was being facetious. I merely find it interesting when one quotes the FDA for one thing while claiming the FDA is illegitimate for other things.
I totally understand the issues with the cpap but, then again, I understand the issues with covid vaccines, which the FDA also approved.

Oh oh, I have one of the Phillip's Dreamstation APAP machines on the recall list. I registered to be on the recall list, but they state
From their FAQ page https://www.philips.ca/healthcare/e/sle ... src-updateWhat to expect next:
We regret that it may take some time to replace affected devices. The planned repair for the affected devices involves certain design changes, which in some markets may include review and/or authorization by the relevant regulatory agencies. We understand the impact of this issue and we sincerely regret this disruption.

- Do not stop or alter your prescribed therapy until you have talked to your physician. Philips recognizes that alternate ventilator options for therapy may not exist or may be severely limited for patients who require a ventilator for life-sustaining therapy, or in cases where therapy disruption is unacceptable. In these situations, and at the discretion of the treating clinical team, the benefit of continued usage of these ventilator devices may outweigh the risks.
If your physician determines that you must continue using this device, use an inline bacterial filter. Consult your Instructions for Use for guidance on installation.

Re: Warning for most c Pap users!
MY respiratory specialist told me to stay away from those filters, that they are junk and useless.

My respiratory physician steered me away from one of those machines, analyzed the results of my deprived sleep test at the hospital and made some recommendations that worked. I'm wondering how many people are using those clunky things that don't really need them.

Re: Warning for most c Pap users!
I just emailed my respiratory specialist today. I got this reply...
Great, so I can use the dreamstation and "hope" everything will be fine while Philips finds a solution which could be months from now OR stop using the machine even though my DR said I have "severe" apnea and hypertension and "it is probably better for you to continue on the therapy". What to do!The inline filter will not help as well as they don’t filter out the particles if that individuals equipment produces any as they are too small anyways for the filter s work and catch them if there was a concern.
Of course, the Resmed CPaP machines are all on backorder by suppliers so getting one will be months from now! Quite the conumdrum!

Did you get a letter in the mail saying your machine was on their recall list? They said most people should have received their letter by now.
This recall goes back ten years. I have been using one of these recalled products for ten years. I will continue to use it until I get a Resmed which won’t be until about November or December. But the way I look at it, the damage is done now. It’s too late. After ten years, what’s another couple of months gonna do?
It’s criminal that Philips knew about this problem a long time again but hid it. They have put millions of peoples lives at risk. And this is why I don’t trust anybody. But this is very serious schedule 1 recall, the most serious recall there is.
Could be some huge settlements coming to these Philips machine users. If we are still alive to enjoy it.

Re: Warning for most c Pap users!
No, I never received a letter. I am not sure I even registered the machine with Philips when I purchased it last December. I assume the respiratory specialist did all that? I found out about it via your thread and then registered for the recall. I have not been using the dreamstation since Monday. My respiratory specialist never contacted me either until I emailed him.
Who knows when I can get a Resmed. All the suppliers have it on backorder! My respiratory specialist doesnt know when his company will get them either. Not that I will buy from them considering I paid $2050 for the dreamstation and could have bought one from Amazon for 1/3 of that price! I have since learned how to set up the machine myself!

I did not register my machine when I purchased it either. But anyone owning a recalled machine is being urged to go and register now on the Philips home page. Which I did. There is also a class action law suite going on in Canada right now where I have also signed up for. These machines should be replaced immediately, it’s criminal what they are doing.kelownman wrote: ↑Sep 1st, 2021, 5:54 pm No, I never received a letter. I don’t know how long you have been using this toxic machine but for me it’s been ten years, so I know another couple of months isn’t going to save me. It’s too late. And as typical with any recalls, don’t expect help anytime soon. Even though they are saying it’s likely you WILL be affected by these machines, all we get is an apology. Ha ha! And it’s not sincere when they knew this long ago and hid this info. Recalls were very rare back in the day. Now it’s every week. Excuse my cynicism but this is why I don’t trust any government. Nobody is doing their jobs competently anymore.
There should be protests about these things. The millions of Phillip machine users shouldn’t be sitting back while they say, oh we will get you help one day. Seriously? Pathetic, Absolutely pathetic.

I was able to find and purchase a Resmed Airsense 10 elite CPaP machine. I got it last week. It works like a charm, although it doesn't have the autoset that I would have preferred to have like my cancer-causing Dreamstation CPap machine. Anyone wanna buy my Philips Dreamstation?
