That could be true. Even so, wouldn't we be able to simply take a new screen shot anytime the information was updated?Beerhunter341 wrote: I would think that the QR code would be "revolving" so the information is always updated and the old QR code would be invalid.

Re: Vax Passport tip
I thought the person checking at the door had to scan the QR code, and their scanning app would check the most current status of the person represented by the QR code. The same way a barcode scanner isn't looking at a price, it's looking at a database for the current price of a product. So there shouldn't be a reason to update the image, should there?Ka-El wrote: ↑Sep 13th, 2021, 10:23 amThat could be true. This is my understanding as well. Once the scanner retrieves the QR info they would then check the names against their ID. This is why it will be a complete failure at large events such as concerts and sporting events. It will take too long to verify.rustled wrote: ↑Sep 13th, 2021, 10:32 amI thought the person checking at the door had to scan the QR code, and their scanning app would check the most current status of the person represented by the QR code. First they would have to check their ticket, then their vax passport and then their ID. I guess if anyone of those fail they will not be allowed to attend the event. The lineups will be huge and people will get very frustrated.

No idea. Just musing that updating the screen shot wouldn't be that onerous a task.rustled wrote: So there shouldn't be a reason to update the image, should there?

There's a lot about this that people find frustrating. One of our more tech-savvy parents managed to print out a paper version for their wallets, and now wonders if the print from their home printer is clear enough - good question. There's likely only one way for them to find out - go somewhere that has to scan it.Beerhunter341 wrote: ↑Sep 13th, 2021, 10:38 amThis is my understanding as well. Apparently the people who deliver recreational programming for seniors are expected to check as their workshop participants enter - the person sharing their expertise on a hobby like gardening or cross stitch or fly-tying needs to know how to use the scanner to check the code. Remains to be seen whether or not the seniors volunteering to lead these workshops will be given the scanners they'll need to do the checks at the door.

I agree, the line ups are going to be ridiculous and then of course the fraud will get fine tuned very quickly...my 90 yr old neighbour came over this morning very concerned because he doesn't own a cell phone...he is from the Ukraine and lived thru the war and he said (literally) that his time on this earth is almost over and he's very glad that it will be...he said he started his life during the worst of times and apparently it's gonna end the same way...
what a sad day this is for all Canadians...and yes I am fully vaccinated and if we can't feel safe being fully vaccinated and we have to kill small businesses ( it sure seem like the rest/pubs are taking the worst of it all) to make "us" feel safer than we are going insane..

Re: Vax Passport tip
The QR code contains your data that has been encrypted with a key the scanner will have ... so the name that the scanner pops up has to match the image being scanned, and has to match your photo ID ... the scanner will also show the "issued date" so that can be verified too against the provided image ... similar to how blockchain works all the data has been checksummed and that value is also part of the keyed data which means forging a valid QR code will require someone to have the encryption key, the checksum algorithm and the data format ... who is seriously going to pay to have some hacker figure out all that just to go into a non-essential business/event in this single province?
So the digital image and the printed version will be more or less secure from being hacked/copied ... and no, the scanner won't necessarily need to have an active internet connection (for those worried about the tracking aspect) ...

Without an internet connection, the app would have to store all of the user's QR codes on the scanning device. This number would be in the millions. I doubt that they are stored locally.spooker wrote: ↑Sep 13th, 2021, 11:12 am The QR code contains your data that has been encrypted with a key the scanner will have ... so the name that the scanner pops up has to match the image being scanned, and has to match your photo ID ... the scanner will also show the "issued date" so that can be verified too against the provided image ... similar to how blockchain works all the data has been checksummed and that value is also part of the keyed data which means forging a valid QR code will require someone to have the encryption key, the checksum algorithm and the data format ... who is seriously going to pay to have some hacker figure out all that just to go into a non-essential business/event in this single province?

Edit: Just read it again and I'm guessing that you mean the end-users (and not the scanners) don't require an internet connection.

My elderly mum's feeling the same - trying to keep her chin up, but had enough. The trite comments from people who think it shouldn't be a problem for her don't help. Seems to some of us that we have gone from "everyone should get vaccinated to protect our elderly" to not caring what quality of life our elderly really have - just a never ending stream of bromides that sound just like the first ones about flattening the curve and getting back to normal.W105 wrote: ↑Sep 13th, 2021, 11:04 amBeerhunter341 wrote: ↑Sep 13th, 2021, 10:38 am

For the past year people have been too lazy to even take a couple steps back from me standing in the grocery lineup. What makes officials think this cumbersome system will be tolerated for long by average people, or struggling seniors.

You are taking a screen shot. No internet connection is required and it isn't 'updated automatically.Beerhunter341 wrote: ↑Sep 13th, 2021, 9:15 amI am curious about this as well because it is a double edged sword. Just follow the steps to setup your vax passport. It tells you to save a copy of the QR code right in the instructions.Beerhunter341 wrote: ↑Sep 13th, 2021, 1:43 pm

It's not an app. The app is used to verify the code.Beerhunter341 wrote: ↑Sep 13th, 2021, 8:45 am Don't you need to use the "app"? Is the QR code not dynamic? What would the point of an app be if you are just able to take a screen shot of the app?
