Pessimistic about climate

Post by Mark5 »

Read this article on Castanet today. https://www.castanet.net/news/Canada/34 ... ate-change
How can we blame Canadians after all the climate change propaganda being foisted on us by the left wing mainstream media? Especially the Liberals leftist state broadcaster, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Their doom saying and the fear and guilt they push can only have negative consequences. Frightening our children with visions of apocalypse and disaster. It is disgusting. It is also not true.
I urge everyone here to look up Dr. Patrick Moore`s recent video on YouTube called "Greenpeace's Ex-President - Is Climate Change Fake? - Patrick Moore | Modern Wisdom Podcast 373" on Chris Williamson`s YouTube channel. Dr. Moore tells it like it is and what is really happening and why. Lets give our children some hope and dignity and a positive outlook for the future. We owe it to them to know the truth. These politicians and their supporters are ruining their lives.

That's the clip from Williamson's discussion with Moore that focuses on Extinction Rebellion and Greta Thunberg.
Don't take my silence to mean I've agreed with you; I easily could've just lost interest in explaining how wrong you are.

But Megan Leslie of the World Wildlife Fund, which commissioned the poll, says hope is needed to drive the changes and reforms necessary to respond to the threat.
Yes, we can truly trust the information coming from one of the main "fund-raising organizations" still pushing this hoax. I wonder if pollsters were given an option in the poll "Man-Made Climate change is a fraud and you are wasting my time with this poll".

An online survey on a biased company website, of a biased visitor population, with a small population means nothing nor does it reflect reality.

Let’s get some good news running.

1) Polar bear population is healthy. More than it has ever been.

2) The Great Barrier Reef is now experiencing record breaking levels of coral coverage. Coral loss is natural and coral has adapted to all hot and cold periods.

https://wattsupwiththat.com/2021/09/27/ ... -coverage/

https://wattsupwiththat.com/2021/09/27/ ... -distance/

3) European summers have been getting shorter as colder autumns creep in to summers over decades. 2021 is shaping up to be quite a cold year and this is expected to go on for 7 more years as La Niña dominates. Global warming is natural, and waning. This does not include any effects of a potentially near grand minimum.

https://wattsupwiththat.com/2021/09/24/ ... a-suggest/

4) Many green energy companies are going bankrupt. Many green companies are being exposed as corrupt and dirty.

5) California fires are due to Forrest management. Also, two California academics have been arrested for serially starting fires. One is an environmentalist, the other a sociologist.

6) Naomi Seibt replaces Greta.

If one depends solely on whatsupwiththat, then there is no climate change crisis and all is fine but if one looks further then that questions remain.....

Polar bears.....
By 2040, scientists predict that only a fringe of ice will remain in Northeast Canada and Northern Greenland when all other large areas of summer ice are gone. This "Last Ice Area" is likely to become important for polar bears and other life that depends on ice.

A projection of sea ice in the archipelago, supported by WWF, shows that much of the region is facing significant ice loss in the coming decades - with potentially serious consequences for polar bears.
https://arcticwwf.org/species/polar-bear/population/

Coral reefs.......
“Coral reefs can recover from disturbances if given enough time and the Reef has been given a breather over the last year,” he said.

“Another year like this will continue the Reef’s recovery but the increasing prominence of climate related extreme weather events and crown-of-thorns starfish outbreaks is causing more severe and frequent pressures, giving the Reef fewer opportunities like this to recover."

Since 2009, the Great Barrier Reef has been hit hard with three mass coral bleaching events, the fourth wave of crown-of-thorns starfish outbreaks and 17 cyclones that potentially exposed reefs to damaging waves. Hard coral cover dipped to a record low in all regions at different times during this period.

Global temperature aren't natural if they keep going up like they have for the decade and breaking one heat record after another......also there is no relationship between solar activity and global temperatures as there has been a disconnect in that relationship since the 1970's.....
After a record-tying warm year in 2020, the world is on track for a cooler year in 2021, driven by moderately strong La Niña conditions in the late part of 2020 and early 2021.

However, 2021 will almost certainly be one of the Top 10 warmest years since records began in the mid-1800s. Despite cooler temperatures than over the past few years, 2021 will still be well in-line with the long-term warming trend that the world has experienced since 1970.

The first four months of 2021 were the seventh warmest start to a year on record so far, cooler than every year since 2015. Temperatures may be a bit warmer during the remaining months of the year, however, as La Niña conditions have already faded..........

The 1981-2010 average temperature for each series. Surface temperature records have shown around 0.9C warming since the year 1970, a warming rate of about 0.18C per decade.

Not sure what the argument here is. Is it an outright denial of climate change or whether man is to blame, or both? The climate is changing and if one is old enough they have seen it first hand. Even for those who don't think man has anything to do with it, why help it along? It's not about saving the planet, it's about saving the human species. The world will be fine without us no matter what climate changes occur. In fact it will probably be better off. Man does not have a lot of time to save himself, but the planet has around a billion years before the sun burns out.

Check out Tony Heller on You Tube. What we are seeing now with the climate is absolutely within normal parameters. He proves it time after time with graphs. The media and politicians and the UN are lying to us for their own gain. The planet earth and its inhabitants experience constant cycles of boom and bust. The evidence is all around us if you look closely enough.

I know you don't like wattsupwiththat.com. WUWT is an awarded top 100 science site and they bring together information from many sources. You believe a wildlife conservation group (WWF) knows more about climate? What do you think the worst climate emergency is?

Without scientific skepticism, you have ridiculous predictions made over and over like the following:
By 2040, scientists predict that only a fringe of ice will remain in Northeast Canada and Northern Greenland when all other large areas of summer ice are gone. This "Last Ice Area" is likely to become important for polar bears and other life that depends on ice.
This is based on poor scientific reasoning, and horribly inaccurate models, repeated a dozen times. This includes the IPCC who predict 'maybe' 1 ice free summer by 2050. Why would anyone believe the IPCC when their scenarios are debunked, and run hotter than observation? All previous predictions have failed in regards to an 'ice free arctic'. Not to mention, this fall has seen an increase in the minimum ice extent by more than 1 million sq-km. Why does the WWF (who know nothing about climate) make a more aggressive claim than IPCC AR6? They probably just want to raise fear, and money for their cause. Arctic ice extent is gaining since 2006. Both corals and polar bears have survived higher oceans and hotter and colder periods. Everything affecting coral has been natural, and coral adapts.

As for coral on the GBR, the coral is currently at a record high. Cyclones, and starfish are NOT man-made 'events' or emergencies. Cyclones are not increasing or intensifying. Corals have adapted for hundreds of millions of years and have endured much warmer recent periods, and periods with higher sea levels. How did coral recover so quickly if conditions are worsening? Obviously this is out of everyone's hands and not going to change no matter how many wasted billions you spend.

Carbonbrief - 2021 will be somewhere between the 4th warmest and 9th warmest, with incredible uncertainty half way through the year? lol. Possibly, they aren't any good at predicting anything. Of course 'carbonbrief' is highly biased.

https://electroverse.net/five-major-dat ... rief-lies/

Ridiculous solar disconnect theory is wishful thinking and not provable. The sun constantly affects climate as do numerous factors known and unknown. We have only been gathering accurate data over a short period of time and we can't tell anything from it. All we have are extremely poor CO2 correlations for a very short time period which do not indicate causation. After 50 years we don't know climate sensitivity if it applies at all, so the IPCC invented a half dozen unlikely scenarios until one day we might figure it out. Earths temperatures seem to follow sun activity ok over long periods.

What implies 'solar activity'? Only Intensity? Length of cycles? UV output? Also, I don't see NASA GISS temperature as accurate. UAH Satellite shows 0.13c warming/decade averaged over ocean and land, which incidentally just dropped a few months ago from 0.14c/decade. CO2 doesn't follow temperature over a long period of time nor would you expect an 'instant' response to CO2 or solar radiation and many various cycles modulate climate.

Needless to say, I am not pessimistic about climate, nor have I seen any crisis occur or crisis in the making.

I dunno, I went with a good cordless 21" lawnmower and weed whacker. Just one small step but no more gas and premix, no noise, no stink or maintenance. No loss of performance either and can do 1/2 acre lawn with a half charge. Now all the major auto makers are eliminating new sales of gas/diesel/hybrid vehicles over the next decade or so. The new 2022 F150 Lightning has major performance benefits over the EcoBoost they are currently using, as do most EV's on the market now. So the question is, will the doubters keep their old tech dino-juice guzzlers that are high maintenance just because they think driving an EV is admitting something may be happening? Kind of like anti-vaxxers/maskers/etc. who are actually vaccinated not admitting it to their cult. Time will tell, change will happen.

Obviously this is out of everyone's hands and not going to change no matter how many wasted billions you spend.
Let's start with this one as it's fairly easy to disapprove. The GBR's corals are not at record high levels. It's true that they are recovering but the statement from Rudd in what's up with that is both misleading and false. That's what happens when an armchair scientist doesn't actually do their own field research, uses someoneelse's data and form opinions that enforces his own narrative.
Inaccurate: Numerous scientific studies show a decrease, not an increase, in coral growth over the past decade. International scientific organizations are not ignoring the improvement in coral communities, and acknowledge the influence of periods with low disturbance on the ability of damaged reefs to recover.

Misrepresents source: Peter Ridd misuses data from the Australian Institute of Marine Science in a graph showing how coral cover in the Great Barrier Reef has changed over time. Although the data show an improvement in the amount of coral covering the reef in 2021 compared to previous years, coral cover is not at a record high since 1985 for any region of the Great Barrier Reef............

The claim that the amount of coral in the Great Barrier Reef has increased over the past century and reached a record high in 2021 was published on 23 July 2021 in an article published by Peter Ridd, a former physicist at James Cook University. The article was published on several websites, including Climate Change Dispatch, Watts Up With That, and The Australian, and together received more than 10,000 interactions on social media according to the social media analytics tool Crowdtangle.

In the article, Ridd claims that the release of the latest annual report of the Australian Institute of Marine Sciences on the Great Barrier Reef shows a record high level of coral covering the reef. He uses this observation to claim that scientists who state that coral reefs are threatened by climate change are alarmists. These claims are not supported by scientific evidence and are based on misrepresentations of scientific data and a flawed understanding of coral reef science.
https://climatefeedback.org/claimreview ... eter-ridd/

......and of course cyclones and starfish aren't made events but some theorize they become more polific and energetic (cyclone) because of effects from increase in global temperature from man made climate change.
Warmer seas are creating an additional threat to the Great Barrier Reef, with new research suggesting rising temperatures are helping a key coral predator thrive.

Crown-of-thorns starfish that eat coral are more likely to survive with rising sea-surface heat levels, according to a study by the Australian Institute of Marine Science (Aims).

An Aims scientist, Sven Uthicke, said a study largely carried out at the institute’s marine laboratory in Townsville showed a 2C rise in sea temperature increased the starfish’s chances of survival by up to 240%.

“Warmer sea temperatures were found in this study to enhance COTS [Crown-of-thorns starfish] survival along with other, cumulative pressures on the reef,” he said.

Here's another one that's easy to disagree with but I'm sure what'supwiththat has some other explaination  .
Arctic sea ice minimum extent has declined significantly since satellite measurements began in 1979, with the lowest values observed since 2012.............

Arctic sea ice reaches its minimum each September. September Arctic sea ice is now declining at a rate of 13.1 percent per decade, relative to the 1981 to 2010 average. This graph shows the average monthly Arctic sea ice extent each September since 1979, derived from satellite observations.
