The Canadian flag has been at half mast for some time now in respect to Indigenous, but raising of the flag depends on their say so. Remembrance Day is fast approaching when the flag is lowered to half mast to respect our war dead.
Question is: when will the flag be raised and how do you even bring up the request in order to accommodate Remembrance Day?
This could lead to even stickier issues between Indigenous, the regular folk in Canada and the PMO.

I hope that this is the article to which you are referring.

Don't take my silence to mean I've agreed with you; I easily could've just lost interest in explaining how wrong you are.

Your response speaks volumes about the disregard for tradition and loyalty we built into this new country called Canada. We were proud of our past and now hand it on to you, the kids.

Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

My reply:
Thank you so much Daria for finding it and posting it here.
It is so “otherworldly” that something so simple and traditional, has now a wrench thrown into the wheels. Ten…nay…five years ago, this silly situation would have been termed “unbelievable”.

It's a circle of life thing. Old people have lamented changes since the beginning of time. Whether it was counterculture in the 60's. Disco/Rock/Punk in the 70's. Punk/Hairband/Metal in the 80's. Goth/Grunge/Alternative in the 90's. Emo/Anthem Rock in the 00's. And the pop syrup we see today - where you can be a star from a TV show. Or online. Or on TikTok. Flags are from a time when lives were tactile. Today everything is virtual or from devices. Cest la vie

The offhandedness and the disrespect we see in our world now, emulated by the up and coming “stars of the future” are depressing, reeking of rot and self gratification.
Enjoy it, while keeping in the back of your mind, this is what (and probably worse) that you will hand on to your grandchildren.

Let's hope that your life never depends on that signalman that learned flags, semaphore, Morse code and signal lamps. When the power turns off tech does too. Time to buy a compass because you have no idea what direction you are headed in.nucksRnum1 wrote: ↑Oct 5th, 2021, 6:27 pmWhat's the big deal? Flags are meaningless today. Borders mean less and less every year. Nations are so connected financially and politically that if one nation crashes - we all do. Flags don't stop this. There was a time when flags represented things - like borders - or groups of people. I remember learning when I was a kid doing civics and putting a flag up - that I was told a flag should never hit the ground. Go to any national sports event these days and you will find flags discarded on the ground. My cousin was in the navy on a ship with 5000 people years ago. And he was a signalman. But lights and flags are not needed as much these days because of tech. It makes you think about a lot of traditions that will become redundant as we keep moving forward in the 21st century.Catsumi wrote: ↑Oct 5th, 2021, 6:15 pm There’s another little problem associated with Truth-n-Reconciliation Day here.

https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/other/pr ... d=msedgntpPrime Minister Trudeau Faces More Heat For Starting His Vacation On September 30
(ANNews) – More Indigenous leaders are criticizing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for his decision to take a family vacation on September 30, the inaugural National Truth and Reconciliation Day.
Trudeau and his family travelled to Tofino, B.C. rather than attend memorials on September 30, though he did attend a ceremony in Ottawa the previous night and spoke with eight residential school survivors over the phone the day of.
On Sept. 30, newly-elected Edmonton-Griesbach MP Blake Desjarlais, who is Metis and Two-Spirit called on Trudeau to “apologize to the millions of Canadians who actually did the hard work of remembering, listening & learning today.”
Native Women’s Association of Canada CEO Lynne Groulx said the prime minister’s words in support of reconciliation “ring incredibly hollow when Mr. Trudeau could not take the time that his own government set aside to reflect upon the tragedy of the Indian residential schools and instead chose to flit off to Tofino for a holiday.”
The Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs called Trudeau’s vacation an “arrogant dismissal” and “slap in the face” to residential school survivors. “If this event was before the election; Trudeau would be there on both knees,” it said in a statement.
Timmins — James Bay NDP MP Charlie Angus asked if anyone could imagine the prime minister going on a beach vacation on Remembrance Day, telling the Globe that Trudeau’s decision shows “very bad judgment.”

But...but...but...he did nothing wrong!!
https://www.castanet.net/edition/news-s ... htm#347781Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he regrets the mistake of travelling to British Columbia to join his vacationing family on a day meant to honour Indigenous survivors of Canada's residential schools system.
Trudeau's presence in Tofino, B.C., last Thursday came as a shock after his itinerary initially reported he was in Ottawa for private meetings.
A spokesman for Trudeau said he spent several hours on the phone with eight people who lived through residential schools, and denied that the prime minister had used the historic day to take a vacation.
Global News filmed the prime minister walking along a beach and the resulting video shows him declining to offer any comment.
Reports of his activities on that day sparked widespread backlash from Indigenous leaders, who felt it was disrespectful of him not to join other politicians in attending events held to honour the children who never came home.
Trudeau is acknowledging today that the first National Day of Truth and Reconciliation was an important moment for all people, Indigenous and non-Indigenous, to reflect and to remember.
Carney is "Timbit Trump" and a disgusting misogynist. No self-respecting woman can vote for Carney. People who support Carney are angry and fearful.
