Charles Herbert Lightoller, DSC & Bar, RD, RNR (30 March 1874 – 8 December 1952) was a British naval officer and the second officer on board the RMS Titanic. He was the most senior member of the crew to survive the Titanic disaster.

In 1940, he, together with his son Roger and a young Sea Scout named Gerald Ashcroft, crossed the English Channel in Sundowner to assist in the Dunkirk evacuation. Rather than allow his motoryacht to be requisitioned by the Admiralty, he sailed the vessel to Dunkirk personally. In a boat licensed to carry 21 passengers, Lightoller and his crew repatriated 127 British servicemen.

Henry Berry Lowry (c. 1845 – Unknown) was a member of the Lumbee tribe of North Carolina and militant who led a resistance in North Carolina during and after the American Civil War. Many local North Carolinians remember him as a Robin Hood figure, particularly the Tuscarora and Lumbee people, who consider him one of their tribe and a pioneer in the fight for their civil rights, personal freedom, and tribal self-determination. Lowry was described by George Alfred Townsend, a correspondent for the New York Herald in the late 19th century, as "[o]ne of those remarkable executive spirits that arises now and then in a raw community without advantages other than those given by nature."

This was on Smithsonian channel last night where they were highlighting small (stealth) combat ships. According to the show, he jumped into the water after all life boats on the port side were deployed and he then dragged himself up and onto an overturned lifeboat.
In 1939 he and his wife were asked by the admiralty to go to Germany's north coast and have a look-see to what the lay of the land, depths, and defenses were there. The Sundowner was used ( built in 1912) and he came back with a lot of material.
During the Dunkirk evacuations the Sundowner was raked by German aircraft machine gun fire but he carried on and as mentioned returned with the British and the TV showed what looked like French soldiers. (Helmets are different)

The Code of Hammurabi is a Babylonian legal text composed c. 1755–1750 BC. It is the longest, best-organised, and best-preserved legal text from the ancient Near East. It is written in the Old Babylonian dialect of Akkadian, purportedly by Hammurabi, sixth king of the First Dynasty of Babylon. The primary copy of the text is inscribed on a basalt or diorite stele 2.25 m (7 ft 4+1⁄2 in) tall. The stele was discovered in 1901, at the site of Susa in present-day Iran, where it had been taken as plunder six hundred years after its creation. The text itself was copied and studied by Mesopotamian scribes for over a millennium. The stele now resides in the Louvre Museum.

Private Marcelino Serna was born at the Hacienda Robinson mining camp outside Chihuahua City, Mexico on April 26, 1896. In 1916, when he was 20 years old, he came to the United States. He served as a member of the maintenance crew for two railroad systems and worked as a farmhand in Colorado.

The United States declared war on Germany on April 6, 1917. That same year, federal officials detained a group of young men until their draft status could be verified. Rather than wait, Private Serna voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Army. After three weeks of training at Camp Funston, Kansas, he deployed to France with Company B, 355th Infantry, 89th Infantry Division.

Sarah Elizabeth Stewart was born on August 16, 1905 in Tecalitlán, Jalisco, Mexico. Born to a Mexican mother and American engineer father, she moved back to the United States at the age of 5. Due to the Mexican Revolution in 1906, she and her family were asked to leave the country, forcing them to migrate to the United States. She however, would continue to speak Spanish fluently throughout her lifetime. She did her undergraduate work at the New Mexico State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1927. She went on to earn a master's degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1930 and a Ph.D in microbiology from the University of Chicago in 1939. In 1949, she became the first woman to be awarded an MD Degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. Her ability to achieve such a feat was at least partially due to the fact that she was already working there as a professor of bacteriology. She took classes while working as a professor and when Georgetown University School of Medicine finally allowed women into their programs, she has already completed a number of the required classes allowing her to finish her M.D. much faster than the typical four-years. Her vast education and persistence to achieve her goals is astonishing, and makes one wonder if her passion for cancer research perhaps stemmed from her family's history of various cancers.
