You’re correct, there are many folks who don’t have family in BC, or even in Canada, who end up spending major holidays alone. We were in this boat when we first emigrated here over 46 years ago. Fortunately we eventually created our own Canadian family, and have celebrated many such occasions with them ever since. But, in the years before that happened, we found one solution was to invite friends over on one of the days either shortly before, or shortly after, the holiday. That way we still got to celebrate special occasions with friends, albeit not on the actual day.
