Actually, they can drive just fine, in a straight line. It's the corners that seem to buffalo them.
Nenshi did not see eye to eye with Kenny, be interesting what kind of municipal relationships are developed with the Premier.

Re: Alberta
I actually have friends and relatives who I visit (at least I did up until Covid), and saw the change coming slowly, at least in the urban areas. There are some places, like the ancestral home of Manyberries, that are still in the dark ages.Rejigger wrote: ↑Oct 19th, 2021, 12:39 amBy the way, Jyoti Gondek is taking over for Naheed Nenshi (gay muslim man) who was Calgary's mayor for 11 years.bob vernon wrote: ↑Oct 18th, 2021, 8:46 pm Not your father's tall-in-the-saddle Alberta anymore. Municipal election day in Alberta. New Edmonton mayor: Amarjeet Sohi. New Calgary mayor Jyoti Gondek. By the way, Amarjeet Sohi is a former federal LIBERAL cabinet minister.
It's odd that some people (those outside of Alberta) are just now figuring out that they've been perpetuating a stereotype for all these years. There are people who think of themselves as enlightened, yet hate people from Alberta based solely on their own ignorance.
I s'pose I should be happy that one more person has realized their mistake instead of questioning what took so long for them to realize it.

Naheed says that he isn't gay. So there's that.

Re: Alberta
Another hilarious headline from the Beaverton that totally nails it. Kenney definitely is embarrassing Alberta again with this ridiculous referendum nonsense.
https://www.thebeaverton.com/2021/10/r ... le-to-fly/
Referendum asks Albertans if they want to stop equalization payments, whether they’d like to be able to fly
Albertans are headed to the polls today to make an important determination of whether they want to change the Canadian constitution to get rid of equalization payments, and if they’d like to be able to fly high in the sky like Superman.
“We figured as long as we are asking people about something they have no power to change, we might as well go all the way,” said Premier Jason Kenney, running around his house with his arms extended making airplane sounds.
“It’s about leverage. If the vote passes Trudeau will have to take our demands for a new equalization formula seriously, and God will have to really consider whether he should give his retractable wings that we can shoot out of our bodies when we want to go for a nice ol’ fly.”
The question simply reads ‘Should the section of the Constitution enshrining the principle of equalization payments be removed and also should we as humans be able to jump off a tall building without worrying about gravity?’
“I can’t wait until I see the look on Trudeau’s face when this non-binding, low turnout referendum cancels equalization payments once and for all,” said resident Lyle Mackey. “Which I will see as I fly by his third floor window.”
If the referendum succeeds future referendum questions will ask Albertans things like ‘Should the Oilers or Flames win the Stanley Cup every year, Should trucks be made even cooler and Should Alberta no longer be landlocked?’

Seriously though, shouldn't Kenney have put the Edmonton to Bella Coola super canal on the same referendum? No more pipelines, just dock the tankers in Edmonton.Pappywinkle wrote: ↑Oct 19th, 2021, 4:10 pm Another hilarious headline from the Beaverton that totally nails it. Re: Alberta
I'm not sure Albertans are anymore embarrassed by Kenney than British Columbians are by Horgan. Or Canadians are by Trudeau. Hmm, on second thought, maybe we all have something to be embarrassed about when it comes to our so-called leaders.Pappywinkle wrote: ↑Oct 19th, 2021, 4:10 pm Another hilarious headline from the Beaverton that totally nails it. Regardless, equalization payments were introduced in 1957. It's not as if they can't be scrapped in the same way they were introduced. Trudeau et al are doing what they can to ensure there's no money to transfer out of Alberta anyway, yes?
Maybe British Columbians should be embarrassed that they aren't working harder to earn more money for other parts of Canada to live off of? Quebecers can't be expected to support their smoking and drinking habits on their own, fcs.

From what I've heard of Naheed, I don't believe that he would lie about something like this. If he says he isn't gay then his word should be respected. And for the record, it doesn't matter to me either way what his sexual preference is.

Let me clear that up for you:

Horgan at 63%, second highest in the country, Kenney at 31%, bottom of the barrel.

Approval ratings don't equate to 'embarrassment'. They equate to anger, at best, but not embarrassment.fluffy wrote: ↑Oct 19th, 2021, 6:40 pmLet me clear that up for you:

From what you've heard of Nenshi? His word should be respected? Yes, let's respect and believe all politicians. They never lie.The Green Barbarian wrote: ↑Oct 19th, 2021, 6:03 pmFrom what I've heard of Naheed, I don't believe that he would lie about something like this. And for the record, my post was in response to the below inference that Alberta has been stuck in the past until yesterday ('vote day'), when someone flipped a switch and it all suddenly changed overnight.

I will say one thing for Kenny's buddy Moe in Saskachewan - He sure is good at dancing around a point-blank question. Do you take personal responsibility for the covid crisis in your province? Dodge-weave-feign-salsa-foxtrot-hip hop-breakdance-i regret-shuddah-cuddah-wudda-federal government-freedoms- BLAH BLAH BLAH - hollow words. I guess that was the way he got out of responsibility for what he has done in the past before?
