Windows 10 and anti-virus

Post by Babba_not_Gump »

I'm running Windows 10 and wondering if I require an anti-virus program other then the one supplied by Windows 10 security?
My computer currently has Norton 360.

That's all I rely on and have never had a problem.

Same. I wouldn't bother with more.

Virus's and malware have evolved. Mostly gone are the days where you get compromised by opening a file with a virus in it. Nowadays, most systems are compromised via vulnerabilities in the operating system, browser, or other legitimate application installed on your device. Traditional AV clients don't protect against that type of compromise.

Unless you download pirated software (media/video not so much) - still pretty common to be compromised that way and a traditional AV client can help. Unfortunately, even with an AV client the AV companies are now detecting the cracking tools that pirates use to get around the copyright protection as malicious files/data. It becomes very difficult to know if the alert is false or legitimate.

The one that's included with Windows is free and rated as good as most.

Why pay for something that might only be a few percentage points better!

 Bsuds is spot on.

Also some of the alternative options are quite bloated and cause an unnecessary strain on resources.
