Re: Karma!!
Not sure you can blame the Government for this one, because anyone who would bully a waitress and a senior the way this guy did, is an angry individual with a short fuse who is just looking for an excuse to explode. If it wasn’t Covid restrictions setting him off, it would be something else.
People like that are trouble, no matter what the circumstance.

Re: Karma!!
No that's not exactly what I meant, I'm not advocating for people to just ignore this kind of thing at all. I think everyone has a duty to intervene in ways when they see this kind of situation but each situation is very different. In this case the senior was lucky but it could have been much worse had the other guy not served him a knuckle sandwich.

my5cents wrote: ↑Oct 29th, 2021, 4:49 pm Interesting view of criminal law.... recording an illegal act makes one an accessory to the act ? So while "minding their own business" someone who feels they can't overpower an assailant must not record the event, because that would somehow make them an accessory.
Interesting....
So you feel that people should record crimes and do nothing? Don't call the police, don't intervene, or encourage someone to help you intervene? The value of video evidence is great when it comes to holding the person accountable but to sit back and record it while doing nothing to try and stop it? Give me a break.

Perhaps you could include the quote, where I said people should sit back and record an event and not call for help.AtlantisKelowna wrote: ↑Nov 1st, 2021, 3:15 pm So you feel that people should record crimes and do nothing? You stated: "Im sure at least one person who witnessed this would have been able to hand out a reasonable punishment. Each and every person with a recording of this should be charged as an accessory to the assault."
I gather that was in reference to the incident in the US, where a woman was being raped on a subway train and many recorded it but nobody called police. A clarification was added where it was explained that from the way the two acted, it didn't appear that it was a rape. Kinda voyeuristic, but that's another story.
Not calling police, or not helping, whether you are recording the event or not, isn't a crime. Morally bankrupt perhaps, but not criminal.
You state: "but to sit back and record it while doing nothing to try and stop it? Give me a break"
You stated earlier: "Senior should have just stayed out of it", then later went on to say "If you are going to step in and try to de-escalate then you should probably be able and prepared to stand up for yourself"
So which is it ?
As I said earlier, I don't think the senior got up to confront the bully, it looked to me like he was just getting up to pay his bill and leave, when he made the comment.

You can spin the conversation however you like, I'll stick with my opinion. If you can record, you can call 911. If you are brave enough to step in, be prepared to defend yourself. Pretty simple concept really.my5cents wrote: ↑Nov 1st, 2021, 4:03 pmPerhaps you could include the quote, where I said people should sit back and record an event and not call for help.AtlantisKelowna wrote: ↑Nov 1st, 2021, 3:15 pm So you feel that people should record crimes and do nothing? The only morally bankrupt people I can see in all of this are those who feel recording a crime and not reporting or intervening is not criminal in any way.

Re: Karma!!
It's possible that people had already called 911. Either way, the situation escalated quickly when the anti-vaxxer started threatening workers and assaulting patrons. By the time anyone could've gotten through to 911 things could've gotten a lot worse. Thankfully someone was able to de-escalate the situation and make the restaurant safe again by putting the bully in his place.AtlantisKelowna wrote: ↑Nov 2nd, 2021, 10:42 am You can spin the conversation however you like, I'll stick with my opinion. Pretty ironic how the bully anti-vaxxer acted brave and tough against workers and a senior, yet when someone stood up to him he cried and sulked out of the room. He clearly wasn't prepared to defend himself.

What is truly ironic is the way you assume vaccination status based on a video. Then accusing one of being a bully and not understanding that your continual anti-vax rhetoric is a form of bullying as well. I guess it is true, takes on to know one.Pappywinkle wrote: ↑Nov 2nd, 2021, 10:58 amIt's possible that people had already called 911. I think you're mixing "nagging" with "bullying".AtlantisKelowna wrote: ↑Nov 2nd, 2021, 3:49 pm What is truly ironic is the way you assume vaccination status based on a video. Some in our society have a skewed sense of their rights. That misunderstanding causes much of the tension.
These days as a society we mostly live and let live. I recall the "good old days" when there was the "Lords Day Act". The Christian majority didn't want people to work or play on the sabbath. Too bad if you didn't follow their religion.
Still some societies regulate their population quite strictly.
In ours we pretty much are OK with others "doing their own thing".
When it comes to a contagious disease that crosses the line.

Well, considering that nagging is a form of harassment and harassing someone is considered bullying I think my initial comment is still correct.my5cents wrote: ↑Nov 2nd, 2021, 6:16 pmI think you're mixing "nagging" with "bullying".AtlantisKelowna wrote: ↑Nov 2nd, 2021, 3:49 pm What is truly ironic is the way you assume vaccination status based on a video.
