Talk to the people in Penticton, they're looking at 8.5% ... and hey, that sewer line isn't really needed, just start using the compost pile for all the :cuss: ... and if there are some people willing to be vigilantes I bet you can cross off the RCMP hike too ...

It's been tough all over and it's a very slow recovery ... but we still need to support the local community as we all depend on it

Increases in taxes are the usual things to expect now, but for heaven’s sake, why such big jumps?

Add in the increasing cost of groceries, gasoline, services of all stripes, we can expect to see more taxed to death and out on the streets begging.

Yes, hyperbole here, but consider for a moment the elderly who do not have an employer to hold up for ransom.

This increase should have been revealed BEFORE the deadline for filing to run for that vacant council seat. But there's another opportunity in late 2022. Run. Let's have a tax revolt and drive our infrastructure into the ground.

They always announce large tax increases this time of year, but then in the new year they whittle them down to something more reasonable. 8% is a large starting point though.

Everything costs more now that the federal has the money printing machine on max.
It’s going to get a lot worse.

So very true but not only is the federal government got the money machine on overdrive but so does the provincial government and between the two of them can you imagine how much we will owe at the end of the year and the tax hike both governments will be asking for.
Then they expect business to stay open and employ large numbers of workers and what the cost of living will be?

I agree with you but can you explain why they require three new light response vehicles and other money to the fire department. Is this so they will on duty staff will have a vehicle to chase the ambulances? How much more will Predator Ridge be paying for their fire department. I would like to see justification reports with all call being split into three area, fire, rescue and health calls when the ambulance has been called.
Why do we need another planner it would be nice to see justification reports for this and all other departments.
No hew vehicles for the operations as it seems that most of them already have their own vehicle, as can be seen by the number of occupants in city vehicles on the road or the number at a work site versus the number of workers.
The public should have input on all infrastructure jobs unless they are emergency. as the locals know what needs to be fixed and what is just keeping the staff occupied.
I can see that the Village Green mall will soon become a large home for all the new homeless people in town as they will not be able to afford a house or place to live because the city will tax us all out on the street.

Maybe they should hold off on other expensive projects that we don't really need at this time, like a cultural center. I can see why some may "want" it but do we "need" it? What is this center going to bring in terms of revenue or will it just be another expenditure to maintain.

It is sad though when we look at the grandiose waste of money that all levels of government engage in that we MUST pay for, now or in the future.

Then the taxpayer, when with a wish list of their own in hand has to turn them aside as it’s just too damned expensive.

If only we could see our way to force trimming on wasteful expenditures by gov’t entities, then we might look forward to new entertainment buildings, more RCMP, better maintained parks and all the other things that would make life rosier for taxpayers.

All we have to look forward to right now is deficits and an ever ballooning debt.

"Hey guys let's deal with this mismanaged opioid epidemic and housing crisis by hiring more police and buying 3 new pickup trucks, and increasing property tax to pay for it"

They're beating a dead horse and will give themselves another raise for it soon, too.

If you are unhappy with who we the taxpayers in Vernon are being treated then let your mayor and council know.
Below is a website I love it has all the email address for every major person at city hall. I do hope they reply to you as they ignore me as I have not a response in past 8 months.

No, The Provincial Government does not have the ability to print cash like the Feds do.

When you wrote this is I was taking it as irony considering that if it was true, it was going against my high school economics in Saskatoon in the 60. Which say that if the government prints too much money the value of the dollar will collapse, the reason for printing money to replace old and worn bills and replace bills when new ones come on line.
The way you are saying your quote means they are spending money without thought as both levels of government are and the only way to pay is by raising taxes not printing more money.
All financial people agree that taxes will rise or services will be cut because of all the out of control spending by all levels of government.
Maybe a refresher course in economics would help you.
