Canadian journalists are increasingly under attack online

Post by SAILINGONE »

No kidding, you reap what you sow. The media in Canada referred to in this article, are all bought by trudeau with billions of our, the taxpayer's dollars, to create and spread trudeau narrative propaganda and fear. The few independent news outlets left in Canada are constantly denied access to carry out real journalism, muzzled around and blocked by the police and tax dollars are used on high priced liberal lawyer to tie these way smaller news outlets up in court with frivolous court cases.
History shows what will happen to a country, after a regime take control of the message, we must not allow for that to happen in this country.

Got a link to that article ? I prefer to make my own judgement as some people's ideas of what passes for "real journalism" tend to push the envelope of credibility.

Stories like the one on Castanet seem fully intended to shift discussion away from any legitimate complaints of bad journalism and the attitudes presented by far too many of today's journalists and the agencies they work for - by instead discussing the worst attitudes exhibited by some of the people doing the complaining.

Certainly seems to me that protecting shoddy journalism from criticism is the primary objective.

Criticism is one thing, but this story describes the bullying as:
A wide variety of online harm was reported, including vulgar and sexualized messages or images, physical threats and offensive comments targeting gender or ethnic identity.

The overall media climate, accusations of "fake news" and objections to the media organization a journalist works for emerged as the key factors prompting harassment.

Yet an undercurrent of misogyny, racism and homophobia appears to permeate many of the online attacks.
I'm still hoping this is part of the vocal minority being more idiotic than before ... have to keep hope for the human race as a whole, which these "complaints" don't help with ...

According to the survey, many “media workers” are “struggling with mental health challenges” and “reported feelings of fear, shame and anger, with some experiencing trouble sleeping or other mental health issues.”

Many if not most Canadians are subjected to hurtful criticism, threats, and generally vile behavior in school and on the job. Unlike those in media, they don't get paid to share their experiences with a large audience.

The pathos would work much better if this story were about the challenges faced by dissenting journalists in countries like China, Russia or Iran.

Exactly. Drop these "journalists" into Tibet for a few months and then see if they still have "trouble sleeping". What a generation of total wimps we have bred with this enabling nonsense. I am all for helping those that require help with their mental health, but this whole victimhood thing on behalf of these snowflakes really rings hollow.

Do we even have a journalist in Tibet.??

Tibet was a sacrificial lamb to the Chinese diaspora where even the sacred Potala has now been turned into a 3 ring circus and no one dares to vent against same without being carried off to a dark dungeon to be “dealt with”.

I see very little news from that area and find that I must hunt stories down, only to be confronted with the “joy” that Tibet is under the Chinese thumb. Talk about fake news.

So, I ask, are our journalists so sleepless because there is much to report and they can’t or won’t??

We know that in Canada our news is slanted to paint a pretty picture of what the Government is doing to Canadian rights snd freedoms as money just doesn’t talk, it screams.
Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

It is sad that conservative supporters in America target journalists or those with press helmets on. During BLM protests there were journalists covering the events who were maimed purposely by Police. One journalist, in particular, was blinded by a "non lethal" projectile that was aimed at the head. Which is not supposed to be done.

This makes it even more valuable that people can film video on their devices. Especially since the press is full-on targeted.

The sentiments that accept threatening/violent behavior toward those you disagree with are completely and utterly wrong headed. It seems a thug mentality has permeated too many people.

If I disagree with something it doesn't mean I have the right to threaten or behave violently toward anyone. It is just bullying, and most often by cowardly and small people who are not "big enough" people to accept that they are not always right, and that no single viewpoint on many topics can ever be said to be the "right" one.

It bothers me to see acceptance of such behavior. Give your head a shake.

I happen to think that some politicians and journalists are koo koo for coco puffs, that's fine, but it is NOT ok to try to bully them with deliberately hurtful remarks, threaten them in any way, or make violence a part of the equation.

Point blank, even if it is someone that I think is koo koo for coco puffs, I will stand up for them if faced by such childish bullying nonsense.

Bullies are cowardly, twisted and sad excuses for human beings. No one should accept their disgraceful and bottom of the barrel slime behavior.
The middle path - everything in moderation, and everything in its time and order.

How is a camera filming a moment a lie?? Crazytown. I guess the cops who murdered Floyd should have battoned and beat the people filming on their phones and yelling at them. Ridiculous.

We are seeing the heart of the problem right here in this thread, the "shoot the messenger" mentality. Extremists at both ends of the spectrum see it as fair game to denounce journalists out of hand for no reason other than that they do not share the same partisan leanings. The reality of journalism today is that it more often than not is subject to bias in some degree, the onus is o=upon the reader to ferret out reliable information. That's just the way it is. To pretend that any one side does and the other does not is living in a dream world, but we can be pretty sure that the farther we move from center the more likely we are to see bias and misinformation enter the picture.
