Out of country medical treatments anyone?

When my friend was waiting for a knee, the Vernon doctor was limited in the number of surgeries he was permitted each week, he had a waiting list that was 4 years long. We sent letters to everyone we could think of and after a while they doubled his operating room access which helped. Not sure if I am allowed to name the Doctor, but since I am on permanent moderation I will name him and the mods will take out the name if not allowed.

Dunno about Orthopedics, but we have knowledge of the Mexican medical system in Mazatlan, it is excellent, very high quality.
My friend spent a week in hospital there, and the treatment was top notch, you could have eaten off the floor. I camped in the parking lot, & used the shower in the ward during the week. Cost of the week long stay with Meds and specialist care was about $6,000 cdn., BC medical reimbursed about 1/2 of that.

Yup. I have several friends that live in Cabo for months at a time. They have dental and all manner of medical procedures done there. Medical tourism. I have had one as well while down there when it was unexpectedly required. Very professional and very cost effective.

We had a friend who wanted a hip replacement. They claimed he was 'too young' - only 40-ish. Yeah, well, he told them he wanted to be able to play with his kid while he was young, not wait until he was too old to want to play with dad. This guy went to the coast and had it done at a clinic there.

My cousin lives in an ex-pat community in Mexico, and they have excellent medical care. He's had heart surgery; she's had hip replacements, etc., and all the docs are US-trained. Cheap, quick, and good care. I think his heart surgery came about 2 weeks after his original doctor visit!

Had a rather difficult root canal (2.5 hrs with his face in my mouth) Cost about $200 took 3 visits, one to diagnose & xray, second to dig the hole, third to place the filling. Three years ago & I do not have any regrets. Seems to me one could fly down, spend a month in some nice digs, and get extensive dental work done for less than it would cost in the US or Canada.

I would definitely consider dental work in Mexico, just not sure about major surgery. Maybe if I was living there permanent or for an extended time.

There's a Mexican city just across the border from Yuma, Los Algodones, and their whole reason for existing is dental, prescriptions, surgeries, vision care etc.
