this is a terribly naive way to think. Debt is bad. Very bad.
This election, vote ABLNDP - anyone but those scumbag NDP or scumbag Liberals.

Really? Hmmmm. I guess Target shouldn't have walked away from their debt here in Canada. Or many businesses who have recently declared bankruptcy. Or individuals. Which illustrates how imaginary debt is. And how benign debt is.The Green Barbarian wrote: ↑Nov 14th, 2021, 12:13 pmthis is a terribly naive way to think. Debt is bad. Very bad.

Oh heck, don't forget Mr. Wonderful Kevin O'Leary (the drunk boater) ran away from his leadership campaign debt and he seems to be doing OK.nucksRnum1 wrote: ↑Nov 14th, 2021, 4:02 pm

Let's not start taking financial advice from posters whose entire economics education stems from watching Pierre Poilievre's unhinged and unknowing rants on Facebook.
Successful people, corporations and nations have been using debt with stellar results for a lot longer than Pierre has been an "expert." Just because conservatives only use debt to give the wealthy tax cuts doesn't mean debt should never be used.
The Liberal's use of debt to support Canadians is the reason people didn't starve and lose their homes. It's the reason jobs and the economy bounced back, while the Americans are going to have to borrow a couple trillion to jumpstart their economy.

Conservatives will throw a tantrum demanding an audit, and then when the audit comes out throw another tantrum about ‘dumping’ money on an audit.
The best part about the 'twitter files' is where Tucker Carlson asks Hunter Biden to help his kid get into college.
Some right wingers definitely have a secret folder full of naked Hunter Biden photos.

Again, drifting to Off Topic territory
The link in my original post did not condemn taking on debt in times of emergency. Nor is this a Left/Right issue. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with OAS and CPP and GIS.
For those that actually took the time to read the linked material, it is obviously about government rushing to toss money out into the landscape, willy nilly, and then afterwards coming to the late realization that had they thought it out beforehand, they could have saved the taxpayer plenty of unnecessary debt.
It would be awesome if You actually read the linked article before replying, just once.
As for an audit, that is the one area the federal government cut back on to the point that Auditor General is wringing hands waiting for funding that never comes nowadays.
How bloody convenient.

The real story is how did a government run such a large pandemic program that saved so many lives and livlihoods, with so little fraud?
It was literally 99% successful.

But you also wrote this below.
It's a bit confusing.

And, just like magic, the 40 mule team shows up…although a couple of donkeys are MIA.
Bray away…who cares.?

CERB was a great success. He Who Shall Not Be Named couldn't even build gazebos without crooks taking most of it.

"By April 2020, 5.5 million workers had been directly affected by the initial widespread COVID-19 economic shutdown, which resulted in a drop in employment of 3.0 million and an increase in COVID-related absences from work of 2.5 million."

From a Toronto Star article in April of last year:
"Of the 3.4 million Canadian households who rent and whose primary source of income is wages, salaries or self-employed income, 46 per cent have less than a month’s worth of savings, according to research by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives."

There was simply no time for the inevitable "delay and obstruct" tactics of extended political debate.
Of course there would be people intent on defrauding the system, there always is. But should essential aid be withheld from those in legitimate and immediate need because there are a few bad apples around ?
What is essential to this discussion, but conspicuously absent, is just how much of a problem the fraud amounted to.
A great many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices.
