To be even more fair, in these past fights we in Canada at least had a PM with some functioning brain cells. We don't have that now, instead we are saddled with a bonehead PM with a houseplant IQ. We are truly screwed.nucksRnum1 wrote: ↑Nov 25th, 2021, 8:26 pm

What a silly bunch of simplistic nonsense. Not surprising coming from a supporter of the party of clueless trolls. The Green Barbarian wrote: ↑Nov 25th, 2021, 3:14 pmmikest2 wrote: ↑Nov 25th, 2021, 2:21 pm Government intervention is the problem, not the solution.
To Lower The Surging Cost-Of-Living, Canada Needs More Freedom & Less Government
https://spencerfernando.com/2021/11/24/ ... overnment/
The current inflation is mostly temporary and caused by pandemic related imbalances and logistical problems, coupled with folks spending pandemic related stimulus money.
Part of the problem is depressed immigration levels, which contributes to labor shortages. which have been exacerbated by a spike in retirements as folks make a choice as to whether or not to return to jobs they were laid off from during the worst of the pandemic. That will re-balance as the world gets vaccinated and things return more toward normal.
The Liberal government has been quite immigration friendly, much to the consternation of the opposition party of know nothing trolls. Yes, the current situation with the pandemic has meant that immigration has not managed to meet the higher immigration targets. That may come back to bite us with services inflation later in the cycle, however it appears that the Liberal government is doing as much or more than can be expected to fix that problem. Regardless, it is likely that it will be at least another year before immigration can meet its targeted levels.
There some areas where international shifts will likely lead to some ongoing inflation issues. The primary one being food. As consumers in countries like China, India, Indonesia etc. gain purchasing power, the trend is more demand/competition for higher quality foods, and more consumption of staples such as rice and wheat. That trend is not going away, and no flavor of Canadian government can do anything about it. Items like coffee, pineapples, oranges etc. simply can't be grown in Canada.
Housing costs are a tough nut for the federal government. The Liberal government is going to try, however the real power in housing markets lies with municipalities - who are naturally adverse to making some of the needed zoning changes, and tend be very slow in responding to development requests. The most difficult part of the housing situation is that the primary inflation fighting tool is interest rates. Higher interest rates result in higher costs for developers, which raises the price, and the cost to the consumer for mortgages - a determinant factor in both new rental stock as well as for sale housing costs. It certainly doesn't help that the pandemic has caused supply chain disruptions and spikes in commodity prices for things like lumber.
The lumber situation is really fraught. There is no question that BC's output of lumber has declined, and is likely to continue to decline due to a combination of factors - the primary ones being over harvesting in the past and man made climate change effects. In that context, the US lumber tariff (however unjustified) may actually help Canadian housing consumers.
Similarly, climate change effects (drought) have decimated one of our primary suppliers of fresh food items - California. There is zero any government in Canada can do about that. Yes, trade relations with countries like Chile and South Africa help some - but shipping costs are inevitably higher.
Overall, the inflation situation is international in nature, and whether we like it or not, some aspects are intractable.
The complexity of the inflation situation can be seen in these articles: https://www.ocregister.com/2020/01/14/h ... k-economy/ and https://www.brookings.edu/blog/up-front ... he-future/.
Yes, those articles are in relation to the US situation, but no matter how you slice that context spills over and applies to Canada.
The Liberal governemnt has only so many levers to pull regarding inflation and re-balancing supply/demand and supply chain issues. Trolling by the opposition know nothings helps how? It doesn't.

It's actually neither "nonsense", or "simplistic". The Liberals were spending like idiot drunken sailors long before COVID struck, and it wasn't surprising given they are low functioning unqualified children. Now they've spent us into oblivion and caused horrible inflation. The Trudeau Liberals are truly awful, and truly disgusting. Everyone who voted Liberal should be hanging their heads in absolute shame right now. And rightly so.

Last time inflation was a problem in Canada was probably last time government printed money hand over fist.

So Coward Boy Justin got raked over the coals by the awesome team at the CPC, and of course, being a coward, and a low-functioning imbecile, he didn't like it, so what does Coward Justin do? He runs to the NDP and cries about it, and now he doesn't have to get off his couch or put down his video game controller anymore. What a piece of Justin is.
https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/o ... d=msedgntpO'Toole accuses Liberals of hiding as House of Commons moves to resume hybrid sittings
OTTAWA – Parliamentarians will return to debating the affairs of the nation from behind computer screens after the Liberals with help from the NDP moved a return to hybrid sittings through the House of Commons Thursday.
The move will also cause more political problems for the Conservatives, as it puts strict limits on what type of medical exemptions are acceptable for MPs who have not been vaccinated.
The Liberals and the NDP both voted to shut down debate on the motion for a hybrid parliament, which will allow MPs to participate either in the House of Commons or virtually by video-conference. A final vote on the idea passed late Thursday evening, with the NDP’s support.
Conservative leader Erin O’Toole denounced the move arguing that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been able to attend the climate summit in Glasgow and participate in campaign rallies this summer, but is now invoking health concerns.
“Why is the prime minister being such a hypocrite? What are the Liberals afraid of? The answer is obvious, Justin Trudeau has an aversion to accountability,” he said. “Canadians should be asking why the Liberals can gather in Glasgow, but are out of sight in Ottawa.”
O’Toole said his MPs will attend in person regardless, but he expects empty Liberal benches with ministers not being subject to scrums with reporters or back and forth exchanges in the House of Commons.
“A virtual parliament will limit the voice of Canadians. It will limit your voice and we can’t sacrifice that in our democracy,” said O’Toole.

Reg, I'm so frustrated!
Last night, Justin Trudeau teamed up with the NDP to ram through a motion that allows him not to show up for work in the House of Commons.
After surfing in Tofino and going to cocktail parties without masks abroad he claims he can't show up in the House.
(Surrrrrre.)
The fact is he doesn't want to be held to account by people like me. That's why he doesn't want to show up.
The worst part is....HE DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TO SHOW UP TO VOTE ON HIS OWN PROPOSAL (see pic below!).
He won't stop us. We're going to need your help to work even harder get out the message about our positive plan, and Trudeau's failures.
Together we can do anything. We're so close. Thank you so much for standing with us!!!!

Typical nonsense from the playbook of the know nothing party. Get over it - the CPC has nothing so they just troll constantly. The Green Barbarian wrote: ↑Nov 26th, 2021, 8:49 amIt's actually neither "nonsense", or "simplistic". Answer the question: what have the O'Toole CPC proposed on inflation? Answer: nothing, because they have nothing.
So the irrelevant CPC know nothings troll and pretend that international issues beyond the control of any Canadian government are somehow the fault of the Canadian government. What nonsense!
Trudeau and the Liberals ain't perfect, but at least they have a plan to deal with inflation in the long haul, and try for some short term fixes.

As far as I know this didn't come from the Liberals or the NDP, so your "know nothing party" accusations are meaningless.
Also, it was not "nonsense", it was extremely well written. Justin the coward and his gang of low-functioning children are far far too intrusive in our lives. They are far far too stupid to be given this kind of responsibility. Excellent work Mr. Fernando!

Coming up with zingers in the house of commons isn't making the party in power accountable. Making sure that there is a functioning opposition is. That's why Singh has been such a great leader and opposition. The NDP and leader came up with lines in the sand that ensured Canadians were being served.

It's not just about "coming up with zingers", it's holding this disgusting and evil "government" of low-functioning Liberal children to account, and that's what the CPC was doing, so well in fact, that coward-boy Justin, the coward of the cottage, is fleeing back to his couch because he got hurt feelings. Poor itty bitty man...nucksRnum1 wrote: ↑Nov 26th, 2021, 10:28 am Coming up with zingers in the house of commons isn't making the party in power accountable.

Nope. And you still haven't answered the question on the alternatives that CPC know nothings have proposed, which is zero. But then I don't expect rationality from supporters of the CPC that rejects rationality entirely. The Green Barbarian wrote: ↑Nov 26th, 2021, 9:51 amAs far as I know this didn't come from the Liberals or the NDP, so your "know nothing party" accusations are meaningless.

The Liberals are doing what can be done on the inflation front in context. "Context" say the know nothing CPC trolls..."what is context, someone look that up, anyone got a dictionary? How can we troll that if we don't know what it is?"

This is just silly demagoguery at it's finest. Enough with the silly name calling and foolishness. The Liberals are doing a terrible job, and now they are cowardly going into hiding. "In an interview with CBC's Power & Politics on Tuesday, former parliamentary budget officer Kevin Page also pointed to a number of factors driving inflation — but did suggest that government support was boosting consumer demand. He also said that inflation could be short-lived but that it should factor into the government's decisions about future stimulus spending."
And yup, Trudeau and Freeland have scaled back pandemic stimulus to the bare minimum - and unless there is a lockdown, basically nothing. The business part of it goes away in the spring as well.
Oh, well, the CPC clown car will continue with their trolling and Trudeau and 90% of voters will ignore the puerile CPC nonsense.

"Enough with the silly name calling...bunch of cowardly children..." aside from that there's evil, bonehead, people, I can't even remember all the silly names you call liberals regularly in this thread. As for demagoguery, no one else here is posting full-on partisan love letters from their party, telling them exactly what they want to hear. I'm not attacking you, just pointing out that it's pretty hypocritical trying to call others out for doing what you do in virtually every post. The Green Barbarian wrote: ↑Nov 26th, 2021, 11:30 amYup.

They aren't "silly names" though. Justin Trudeau is through and through the wrong guy for the job. He had one day in Parliament where he got run through the ringer so now he just takes off and runs away to his cottage. It's pathetic. Wrong guy in the wrong place at the wrong time leading the wrong group of people. Canadians deserve so much better than what we are currently receiving in terms of a federal government.
