Re: What is the Secret to Your Happy Marriage?
Pretty simple really.
First and foremost, don't take each other for granted.
Keep the communication lines open.
Respect for each others feelings.
Just my .02 cents...
I'm sure there's lots more...

Trying to think of something profound, and full of wisdom to place here...any suggestions?

We both go on annual vacations,
I go in June,
She goes in July

There's no secret, it's respect. Respect for each other and respect for yourself.
Allowances. Allowing each other to be who each respectively is. No tethers. Freedom for each to live their lives and chase what matters.
No judgement. Lots of support. Talking out the big things before they occur.
Laughter. Making each other laugh makes a bigger difference than one might imagine.
United. Each knowing that no matter what, you have my back and I, yours.
Solidarity. This matters especially with children. Agree on how things are to be done in order to present a consistent front so the kids know what's what. That's what kids need. Consistency and clarity.
Honesty. Even when it hurts or it's going to be hard, be honest.
Never forget what brought you together in the first place. Remember when you were first in love and what that felt like. Life gets in the way sometimes and while it may seem hopeless and moving on may feel like it makes the most sense, work at it. It was worth it at one time and should be worth fighting for.
Honor. You made commitments to each other and they matter, always. Honor them.

Marriage itself is a outdated act that I bet will be extinct and gone in 50 years or less.
Some may view my politically incorrect opinions as harsh and may be offended by them. Some think political correctness will be our undoing.

That made me laugh.
Over 30 years ago, at work, I asked my supervisor, who has been married for a very long time, 30-35 years, how did it last so long?
And he said exactly that "Yes dear".

I think if I were to be married, I would have open and honest communication. There would be mutual respect, and we’d have each others back. I’d leave little notes in his lunch, do special little surprise dates and wear beautiful lingerie. I’d tell him every day how much he is loved and how blessed to have him in my life. He would always know how much of a gift he is. That’s what I think.

Re: What is the Secret to Your Happy Marriage?
Practice and a wise choice.
The first two were where I learned what I should and shouldn't do. By the third I had it down, and knew what to look for in a wife, how to treat her. But it takes two, one could be the best wife or best husband, if the other hasn't bought in, one can't make it work for both, no matter how hard they try.
A happy marriage is so easy, when it's right, and impossible no matter how hard you try when it's wrong.

Commitment!
