Mr O'Toole finally got to show the leadership many have felt that has been hidden too long. The Conversion Therapy Bill receive unanimous consent in Parliament today. The motion for unanimous consent was proposed by the CPC. The Bill will now proceed to the Senate where it may receive a rough ride fron the Conservative unelected members. Today there were noticeable empty seats on the Opposition side of the House. It was obvious that if you could not support the voice vote, you were told not to show up. Hopefully the same thing in the Senate.

The real test will occur when the Bill that will make it illegal to protest in close proximately to a health services provider (hospital, health clinic, etc.) and block access or harass health care providers. This Bill would also provide protection for abortion clinics or vaccination centres. Many elected CPC House members are opposed to both. The General populus supports both of these Bills. It will be interesting to see how the CPC elected and unelected members of Parliament approach these Bills. Over the next three weeks, Mr O'Toole's true leadership capabilities will be put to the test.

It really says something about how disastrously fractured the CPC is when it's members have to play hookie because their values are so out of line with those of Canadians.

"Conservative Party's national council trying to silence members challenging O'Toole's leadership: ex-member"

"Marilyn Elliot is pushing back against claim that senator's petition is out of order"

"A former member of the Conservative Party of Canada's national council is accusing the body of an "indefensible attempt" to silence thousands of party members who want Erin O'Toole to face a leadership review within months.

Marilyn Elliot, who served on the body as a representative from Alberta from 2013 to 2021, wrote to the national council Thursday to challenge party president Robert Batherson's contention that a petition launched by Saskatchewan Sen. Denise Batters is out of order."

Looks like the Batters led effort is not "going away".

O'Toole is playing a dangerous and desperate game when he tries to stifle democracy within his own party.

So I see Max Bernier just received a resounding vote of support in a leadership review from the PPC membership.

If O'Toole wasn't such a chicken, the CPC membership would have the same opportunity. Really dumb of O'Toole not to show courage and have a vote. A vote would kill all the speculation and grumbling.

Instead O'Toole is trying play dictator and not let the CPC party membership have their say.

You know what would be even dumber? Taking political advice from children in the PMO. How about the Liberal sheep stick to their own party - there's plenty of "really dumb" going on there. The CPC is doing just fine.
A vote would kill all the speculation and grumbling.
Except that there is no "speculation and grumbling", other than in the fevered "brains" of Liberal sheep and DI's, so no real issues to worry about.

Hmmm... O'Toole is demonstrating a nasty tendency to backstab anyone who gets in his way.

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/politic ... p-shannon/

"Conservative Leader O’Toole calls for probe of dissident MP Shannon Stubbs over alleged staff mistreatment"

"Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole has asked the House of Commons to investigate workplace harassment complaints against Alberta MP Shannon Stubbs, including an allegation that she pressured employees to paint her house."

Stubbs is extremely popular in her riding, steamrolling any challengers in the last election and beating the closest contender, a PPC candidate by 58% of the vote. She beat the Liberal candidate by 64% of the vote.

Not exactly a good team building effort when the "leader" of the party backstabs one of his own MPs. O'Toole seems to have it out for a number of western CPC MPs, including Stiubbs and Strahl. It looks to me like their primary sin is expressing the party members desire for a leadership review.

O'Toole seems to want all CPC MPs to be obedient little toadies - and is creating his own "toxic workplace" in the process.

Good grief. The constant infighting within the crumbling CPC is such an embarrassment to conservatives. Why can't O'Toole get his party under control instead of putting it's many faults on public display on a near weekly basis? Thankfully we have the NDP and Bloc don't behave like children and are able to serve as opposition while the CPC continues to implode.

I didn't know Shannon Stubbs was a Liberal, or Mark Strahl. When did they cross the floor?

Oh ok - let's hold another leadership convention because the PMO has ordered people to babble about someone named Shannon Stubbs. Good grief, the stupidity is just off the charts here with this nonsense.

I note that the National Post coverage on the same topic is less critical of Mr. O'Toole's actions than the Globe & Mail, which isn't surprising in itself, but they are more supportive of MP Shannon Stubbs, which says a lot. Is Mr. O'Toole losing support in traditionally right leaning media ?

The whole thing with O'Toole "cracking down" is taking on some interesting color. The people within the CPC caucus that O'Toole is openly scrapping with:

- Marilyn Gladu
- Shannon Stubbs
- Denise Batters

Not enough to say there is a pattern yet, but....

In the cases of Gladu and Stubbs, they are both start performers in terms of electoral results and popularity within their own ridings. Gladu, in an Ontario riding, beat the Liberal challenger by over 11% of the popular vote in the 2015 election where there was both anti-Harper and a touch of "Trudeaumania" at play and many CPC MPs went down to defeat. This go around Gladu outstripped the Liberal challenger by 28% of the vote. Seems to me that O'Toole ought to courting those two as they obviously have strong ability to read and respond to the electorate.

It will be interesting to see what develops with Cathay Wagantall (I may think she is bat guano crazy, but her constituents do not) and vaccination. O'Toole has done nothing to protect her status as an unvaccinated MP. (There are 3 other CPC MPs in the same boat.)

O'Toole's behavior since the election has been rather desperate looking, and with the moves he has made regarding Chen, Batters, Gladu, and Stubbs it is in danger of degenerating into obvious and flat out bullying.

I sincerely doubt that O'Toole could get past a membership vote at this point. O'Toole has clearly alienated the so-con group, the gun advocates, and a number of others. The MPs O'Toole has gone after have some strong allies like Mark Strahl and Andrew Scheer, and a "little bird" word to their constituency membership and O'Toole gets voted out.

O'Toole has done himself no favors with his over the line actions. What those actions say overall is that O'Toole knows his 'leadership" is toast, and that's why, unlike Max Bernier or the gracious Tom Mulcair, O'Toole is lashing out and unwilling to face the membership.

The last thing O'Toole needs at this point is MORE enemies within the party, and he is doing his level best to create more enemies within the party. It becomes a ticking time bomb for O'Toole, and handling that situation needs to be done with delicacy (bombs tend to go off if you use brute force).

The Globe and Mail isn't "right leaning".

You nailed it fluffy. The only people who would try and claim the Globe and Mail isn'tt right leaning are those who are so far right they can't even see centre.

"O'Toole maintains Bill 21 a 'question for Quebec' after teacher removed for wearing hijab

Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole maintains that Quebec’s controversial secularism law is a provincial debate, after a Quebec elementary school teacher was recently removed from the classroom for wearing a hijab."

They are all waffling with this. It isn't just O'Toole, but I not O'Toole is doing his usual "both sides of the fence":

"O’Toole said while he’s personally against Bill 21, which prohibits certain government employees from donning religious symbols at work, he respects provincial autonomy."

It isn't that far from where Jagmeet Singh is, personally disagreeing with Quebec bill 21, but not advocating federal action. Nor that far from Trudeau who says they reserve the right to take action at another time.

Now if you ask any of them, they will tell you they will "defend freedom of religion". Ya right. Maybe when it suits them politically, but apparently not as a principle.

As a person, I have deep distrust of organized religions and their dogma, but I do not believe in discriminating against someone because they believe otherwise. I don't care if someone wears a hijab or turban or big cross or whatever.

That aside, Tom Mulcair was on the radio just dead set against Quebec bill 21, and taking the whole lot of the current party leaders to task for punting on this issue.

I think for all of O'Toole's "political savvy" and orientation this could be winning issue for O'Toole. But now O'Toole has blown that chance by punting. Guess he forgot that Harper won a majority WITHOUT Quebec.

There is trouble in Conservative City. Mr. O’Toole’s approval rating is at a new all time low. More and more Canadians do not see him as a dynamic and strong leader. Other political leaders remain in stronger positions with Mr. Trudeau’s results remaining the same, but they are better than O’Toole’s. Unfortunately the chant Go Erin Go seems to be taking on a more urgent meaning.
