What are you doing for Christmas?

Xmas Eve and Xmas morning at my mom's. Then obscene amounts of chocolate, home-made cookies, home-made bits and bites (my mom has the BEST recipe) and tv. My go-to is not technically a Christmas movie. Auntie Mame.

I prefer the classic Christmas movies too. All those “cookie cutter” Hallmark movies are just nauseating.

Christmas Day it’ll be just the two of us. We enjoyed ourselves so much last Christmas spending the day together, just the two of us, that we’ve decided to do it again this year. Covid’s provided us with the perfect “cover” to avoid hurting anyones feelings. LOL

I love my kids and grandchildren, and enjoy spending time with them, but prefer to do so at a less hectic time, and when expectations are lower. At my age, cooking for a crowd, and entertaining a bunch of hyperactive kids, has lost its charm. A nice, quiet, relaxing Christmas is much more to my liking.

Last year we used Facetime to watch our grandkids open their gifts, then opened our own, followed by a leisurely steak and eggs breakfast. Following that we took our dog for a walk, came home and played a few board games, had a nice turkey dinner, and spent the evening watching Christmas movies. It was lovely just enjoying the day, and each others company, without all the stress Christmas Day sometimes includes.

I never realized, until forced to by last years Covid restrictions, how stressful hosting large family gatherings can be.

How does your Mom make the bits and bites gardengirl? I used to love them, they changed the bag recipe so I don't get them anymore

Oh, and always have to have french chip dip at Xmas - don't even really care for it but always had it

I'll have to find the recipe. It is in a handwritten recipe book my mom made for each of us girls. She makes a huge batch in a turkey roaster. Rice chex (instead of shreddies) pretzels, cheeze nips, cheerios, barbeque peanuts. Lots of butter and spices. I can't remember which off top of my head.

This recipe is pretty close. https://www.thekitchenmagpie.com/classi ... ts-recipe/

This website might be helpful too. It provides several Chex snack recipes.

We make Nuts and Bolts every Christmas using Shreddies and Chex. A big roaster seems just enough to get us through the holidays and we store it in the freezer. Tastes just as yummy cold as it does room temperature.

Since I stayed away from Family Christmas event last year, I won’t be doing that this year. BH can go *blank* herself.
