New Democratic Party Leader Jagmeet Singh made the answer to that pretty clear when he announced his willingness to grant the government the extraordinary powers it sought to clear the laneways around Wellington Street, but stipulated

they must never be used against “Indigenous land defenders, climate change activists, workers fighting for fairness.

Wow. Just wow. So if you break the law and cost the economy millions of dollars, as long as you are doing as a self-proclaimed "land defender" (whatever that is) or you break the law in the name of a stupid fairy tale in man-made climate change, or "workers fighting for fairness" (isn't that what the truckers are, and are doing Jagmeet, you imbecile????) then it's totally cool and you can't invoke emergency powers.

What a freaking idiot.

Insisting that the rights of some Canadians deserve greater protection than others isn’t normally a position you associate with Singh’s party.
And that's exactly where this is going. The dehumanizing and marginalizing of a segment of society, such that we end up with two layers of rights in this country. We already knew this to be true as Canadians watched statues get torn down, politicians like the idiot Lizzie May defy court orders and chain themselves to pipelines, and churches getting burned down with zero repercussions, but this just confirms it. Just so disgusting, just so elitist, and just so freaking dumb.

You break the law, you pay the consequences.
Justin Trudeau- racist, elitist, liar. What a sick piece of garbage.

"Mr. Trudeau, you are a disgrace to any democracy. Please spare us your presence" - European Union addressing the sad sack of **** that is currently our PM.

NDP MP speaking now insists the Party has the workers' backs.

He doesn't seem to understand how obvious it is they don't have the backs of the unvaccinated.

Shoring up the political elite.

I think Mr Singh is doing a great job, he's definitely representing my values as someone who voted for his party. Seems like allofasudden so many CPC voters are super interested in the NDP, like some directive came down from somewhere or something.

They are less than 10% and not all of them are workers......so it stands to reason the Party does have the worker's back

When the guy that says he stands for ALL Canadians and is propping up the current government makes this statement regarding the Emergencies Act, he is not doing a great job for Canadians in general:

they must never be used against “Indigenous land defenders, climate change activists, workers fighting for fairness.”

These "indigenous land defenders" and climate change activists are responsible for the latest terrorist act against a federally approved pipeline.

Perhaps these are some of the workers (truckers) Singh and other Canadians are supporting. Truckers trying to move goods to and from the United States.

Knowing ndp tends to vote with the liberals, they may as well drop the ndp name and add liberal MP’s to their titles.

isn’t it incredible that just last year Jagmeet Singh issued a statement of support for the massive protests by Farm Workers in India against the legally elected government of India BUT doesn’t offer the same to Canadian Truck protesters. The ultimate hypocrisy !
Maybe some NDPer's could explain please and thanks

I read his whole speech and I agree with him. It seems quite balanced to me and reflects my values. In context he is clearly speaking of legal protests, not illegal occupations, certainly not terrorists.

But that’s ok now as they are “protected” when they pillage, burn and destroy. This is what it has come down to.

Are you expecting them to pillage, burn, and destroy anytime soon?

That won't happen. Ideological leftists need their own political territory and while I am a crossover voter between the Liberals and the NDP, I recognise that the Liberal Party, in spite of the ridiculous insistence from some quarters that they're "further left than the NDP!", is far to the right of the federal NDP, indeed, they're to the right of me and I'm a lefty-centrist. Any official marriage between the two parties would be as much of a disaster as the Reform/PC fiasco. If it did happen there would be a lot of sad right wingers though, since over half of the votes in the last election were cast for the Liberals or the NDP. The CPC might never actually govern again if the left and centre were united.

They just did.
