It's Putins war. He made the decision to invade. Full stop. The why might be complicated but that is what happened and it doesn't take an essay to state that.

"It now seems rather obvious - to me - that those who were saying powerful people who profit from war were actively promoting Biden's run for president may have had some insight, given how their predictions have played out."
But you're not equating Bidens election with this war. Good lord. And I have a bridge to sell.

I have been saying Biden's election may well have been one of many contributing factors leading to this war. You are trying to "sell" that as "this war is Biden's fault". So to use your analogy, I didn't build this bridge you're trying to sell, and I don't own it and am not responsible for your efforts to sell it as a rustled-built-bridge. Some might buy what you're selling, though - buyer beware! IMO, this conversation has been petty bickering to support your position. Here, again, is my position:

:topic: IMO, Biden's election may well have been one of many contributing factors leading to this war. Powerful people who profit from war were actively promoting his run for presidency, and those pointing it out during the election seem to have had some insight given how their predictions have panned out.

And you'd be 100% right. The Biden administration weakling withdrawal from Afghanistan was a clear signal of just how weak the US has become under the Democrats, yet again, after being neutered by Obama, which emboldened Putin to attack the Ukraine in 2014. He's just seeing the opportunities that weak presidents supply to his country, though he may have gone too far this time.

Is it possible for a country to join NATO and not have the USA have to erect nuclear missiles, navy yards, military bases, etc. in it?
Could it be done peacefully, with out the USA having to take advantage of it for a strategic military position against others?

Despot Vladimir Putin has no reason to be afraid for his country.
Anyone threatening to use nuclear weapons a la despot Vladimir Putin or Kim Jong-un is insane.
Does the US store nuclear weapons in other countries?
In 2021, it is estimated that there are 100 U.S.-owned nuclear weapons stored in five NATO member states across six bases: Kleine Brogel in Belgium, Büchel Air Base in Germany, Aviano and Ghedi Air Bases in Italy, Volkel Air Base in the Netherlands, and Incirlik in Turkey.
Does Russia have nuclear weapons?
What nuclear weapons does Russia have? Although Russia has substantially reduced its stockpiles from Cold War peaks, it still maintains the largest stockpile of nuclear warheads in the world.

The commitment was to withdraw as long as the Taliban kept their word about not invading again, and if they broke their word, there would be consequences - ie they would be bombed and they could go collect their 72 virgins. Weakling Biden just pulled out of Afghanistan in the dumbest way possible and left the Afghani people high and dry.
Which begs the question, who first signalled their weakness?
Uh...Biden, of course, which is why Putin felt emboldened to attack the Ukraine. Because of the senile weakling the US has for a president now.

Yeup easy. I believe Hungary and Romania are in NATO for example. The US has not done any of the things you have mentioned above.
Really doubt Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands have dedicated US military bases either.
Saying that, over the years the US and European host countries will engage in military exercises to make sure the different armies may be able to work together in case of Russian invasion.
As well as a few US nuclear gravity bombs in Europe, France and Britain also have nuclear capability. They are supposed to be a deterrent from any Russian attempt at invading European NATO countries.

When the US sets up shop in another country, there are two items in play. The HOST country is OK with it AND The US pays a pretty substantial amount of rent for this to happen. No country with US troops/military in it has a gun to their head from the US.

President Joe Biden is such a great leader!
Americans should not be concerned about potential nuclear war, Biden says – live

The US is not changing its alert levels in response to Vladimir Putin’s directive to transfer Russia’s nuclear weapons to a “special mode of combat duty,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said.

During her daily briefing, Psaki condemned Putin’s “dangerous” rhetoric, saying that such tactics raise “the risk of miscalculation” and should be avoided.

“We are assessing President Putin’s directive, and at this time we soon see no reason to change our own alert levels,” Psaki told reporters.

“But it’s also important to remember that, even over the course of the last several months and years, when we have had significant disagreements with Russia over a range of issues, Russia and the United States have long agreed that nuclear use would have devastating consequences.”

How difficult is it to understand?

Ukraine - a colony of USA - poorest country in Europe but should be one of the richest,
is run by criminals, like a corrupt African country that gets $millions in aid from USA but all the money goes to a few
rich people. Did Trudeau ever tell us exactly where the $700 million of our tax dollars went?
I'm thinking it went to crooks, two faced crooks who got rich in exchange for preparing to wage a future war against Russia.

Just stay neutral. I that so hard? And stop doing a genocide on your own people. Is that so hard?
