Acne problem with teen

Post by Snickerdoodle »

My son is 14 years old, and just like I suffered at his age, he had very bad skin. I want to help him, but I'm not sure if any product out there really works. We've tried clearsil, but that didn't seem to work. When I was his age, I didn't get help from my parents on this issue, so I'm kinda lost as to what will work.
I see the commercials for proactiv, has anyone ever tried this. I know its suppose to be very expensive, but as long as it works thats what is important.
His diet is pretty good, and he drinks lots of water, its just that dreaded puberty.

I'd suggest taking him to the doctor who in turn may send him to a dermatologist. You're doctor may even prescribe something.

From what I am to understand, diet has nothing to do with acne. Good luck! I hope you find your solution, wish I had when I was a teen.

Proactive is great. I like it, You can now buy it on TV for 19.99. I have a friend that ordered it from the commercial.

I got proactiv for my son last year. He used it for a few days days but hated the fact that there was a twice-daily ritual with it. However, even in the few days he did do it, I saw a difference. So I would recommend trying it, if you think your son wouldn't mind the 3 step process. (my son is 14 as well)

That's not quite right. There are certainly hormones involved, but diet can make a difference as well.

I read a book written by a dermatologist and it was really informative.
This Dr. said that most of the time, the culprit is not chocolate or fried foods. In fact, the trouble is salt. So the french fries, potato chips and the like are not what is doing it, it is the salt.

I have found that really makes a difference. Even now, if I eat too much salt, I get breakouts.

Way back when, they used to prescribe tetracycline for acne. It does work, but with all the antibiotic resistance which has become prevalent, I suspect they are no longer doing that.

Topical solutions such as Proactiv, can work, but diet also makes a difference.

That's what they told me too, but I couldn't find a fish which could ride a bike.

I have no idea what that means.

The tetracycline was effective.

The salt connection is actually due to the iodine. (Iodized salt)

My friend had some bad acne and did the Tetra whatever. It worked for him but there is side affects like dry skin and stuff

My Sister uses Proactive and loves the stuff. she doesnt get acne but she uses it so she never does....Iv never seen a blemish on her face yet I dont think.

But I do suggest going to the doctor first. Then ask the doc if there is a presciption or is proactive best for your kid.

Most of the reviews I've read on Proactive is that it can work on people with light to medium acne as long as they are using it. Just google Proactive reviews and you'll get all kinds of info.

My son had terrible acne when he was 13/14. I took him to our Doctor who put him on Accutane. It's pretty powerful stuff and not to be used without looking into it's side effects, however it did work.

What is the question? Are you asking about treatments?
Causes?

Proactiv works really well. You can buy it from a kisok cart in the mall. It also has a fully money back guarantee if you don't like it or if it doesn't work. The key thing is you have to use it twice a day, everyday for it to work. My daughter would stop using it when her blemishes got a little better and then two weeks late she'd be broken out again. Proper diet is also key to helping keep skin healthy. Lots of fruits and veggies and plenty of water. Also omega 3 and omega 6 oils in your diet (from food) can also help with skin problems.
