How can someone who kills animals with a gun be an animal lover?
VaxisSafe wrote: May 3rd, 2022, 2:22 pm And yet the point still remains that vegetable farmers aren’t shooting things with guns so…

My uncle owned a farm and never had a gun and shot animals.
Yet here we are comparing vegetable farmers to hunters in regards to environmental sustainability and you are arguing that one can't hunt animals and be a conservationist.

No idea what your uncle owning a farm, yet not a gun, has to do with hunters being ethical and standing up for the environment...

The farm was likely 3 tomato plants in a Kelowna back yard, but called a farm to try to validate a very weak and irrational argument point.

Reminds me of the kid in junior high that didn't understand why we raised cattle if you can just go to the store and buy beef.

Nope, please don't put words in my mouth.

I still don't see how farming vegetables has anything to do with owning a gun and killing animals but I think that was Barbarian's point and not yours.

Vegetables isn't food. Vegetables is what food eats.

If food comes on your farm to eat your vegetables ya gotta kill it. :D

Thanks for the laugh Veovis. Good one! :up:
Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

Guns will always be murdering tools and criminals will always have guns. Ensuring every citizen has guns doesn't prevent crime. It just means everyone is now shooting each other.
.

here is my reply...

I view my guns (other than for hunting and shooting) as self defence weapons.
Imagine if the people (pick a mass murder) had a gun(s) to defend them selves and knew how to use it !!!
It is as simple as, if you are going to try to kill me...I have a gun with me and know how to use it...I'm going to defend myself and those around me...you won't be killing anyone today".
It is NOT a case of "everyone is now shooting each other" but a simple point...I'm not letting you kill me !!!

If anyone thinks banning assault weapons, or guns in general will prevent more killing, how will YOU keep them out of Canada and away from criminals ? Answer that !!! Criminals will always have access to guns. Hell, you can even go buy a working TANK, but I'm sure JT will find a way to ban them. What's next...cork screws and can openers ?

BTW...as stated...I own guns...and they have NEVER killed anyone. It is not the gun (weapon) that does the killing...it is the person. Try to refute that !!!

There is no bigger environmentalist/lover of animals then a hunter.
How can someone who kills animals with a gun be an animal lover?
Hunters were the first environmentalists and YES we do love animals !
Perhaps you have heard of Teddy Roosevelt or Ulysses S Grant?
Both were presidents of the USA, war veterans, and hunters.
Grant created the first national park.....Yellowstone.
Roosevelt created 150 national forests, 51 federal bird reserves, four national game preserves, five national parks and 18 national monuments on over 230 million acres of public land.
Here is a interesting stat...

In 2018, over 5.685 million Canadians participated in hunting, fishing, trapping, or shooting sports, resulting
in:
o $18.9 billion in direct spending in Canada;
o $13.2 billion to Canada’s gross domestic product – 0.6% of the Canadian economy;
o Support for nearly 107,000 Canadian jobs, and labour income estimated at $6.4 billion; and
o $6.1 billion in federal and provincial government revenues.

Are hunters the largest contributors to conservation...
The 10 largest non-profit conservation organizations contribute $2.5 billion annually to habitat and wildlife conservation.

Now, let me ask you a simple question...how much do YOU contribute to wildlife and environmental conservation ?
