Oh look...some Russian soldiers don't want to be graveyard fodder......

US sees "anecdotal reports" of Russian troops in Ukraine not obeying orders, senior defense official says
The US sees “anecdotal reports” of Russian troops and “mid-grade officers at various levels, even up to the battalion level” refusing to obey orders to move forward in the new Donbas offensive in Ukraine, according to a senior US defense official.

The official said these officers “have either refused to obey orders or are not obeying them with the same measure of alacrity that you would expect an officer to obey.”

Russian forces have struggled with widespread morale problems since the beginning of the invasion, according to this official, which is just one of numerous problems that has plagued the Russian military during this war.

Russian forces are also still facing logistics issues that are slowing their progress, according to the official.

It’s not “Putin’s Day”. The Victory Day celebrates the end of WW2. Russia (Soviets then) played a crucial role in defeating Nazi Germany. And that’s something for the whole world to celebrate. They were fighting Nazis back then, and they are fighting them nowadays. The fact that they had to do it again is sad.
Wasn't the Russian's allies with Hitlerer in the beginning of the war?......that is until Hitler and the Nazi turned on the Russians. It was sad, the Russian didn't know a friend from a foe back then just like now.
Yeah, they invaded Poland with the Nazis, from the east on Sept 17th, 1939. Speaking of which, can you imagine the audacity of attempting to hold a Victory Day in Warsaw today, with everything going on in the region? Yet, that's exactly what the Russian ambassador attempted to do.

It didn't go over all that well...

May 9th, the day after VE Day, Russian's commemorate the defeat of Germany and the expansion of Soviet rule over eastern Europe...

In reality, only because their previous arrangement with the Nazis didn't work out quite as it was intended, and the countries that now form NATO moved heaven and earth to supply them with everything they needed.

While we celebrate "Remembrance", they celebrate a rewrite of history.

That's a lame argument. The Molotov-Ribbentrop pact was about non-aggression, hardly an "alliance". In the late 30', in the aftermath of WW1, many countries were not prepared for for an all out war against militarily superior Nazi Germany. For example, Neville Chamberlain also made a similar pact (1938 Munich Agreement) with Hitler and Mussolini. And we don't call Britons Nazi collaborators for that.

On the other hand, Stepan Bandera's nationalists actively collaborated with Nazi Germany in the extermination and deportation of many Jews and other "untermenschen", and fighting the Red Army along Nazis during the operation Barbarossa. Nowadays Ukrainian troops are their ideological followers.

I had to check 9 facts about the outlaw duo Bonnie and Clyde today.

Huh, turns out they weren't really "Soviet Era War Heroes", as they we portrayed during this musical performance on Russia One, the state news channel today.

So, it's not just Russia's apologists that suck at history. It's far more systemic and widespread.

Weird, that they chose to appropriate American photos to create their Victory Day billboards. I guess it would have just been too honest to have used this photo of the Soviet Generals saluting the Nazi flag in 1939.

Over 80 percent of Axis causalities occurred on the eastern front, without Russia the Second World War would have been lost by the allies.

The Molotov-Ribbentrop pact was about spheres of influence.

The secret protocol agreed to by Stalin and Hitler, divided Northern and Eastern Europe into Nazi and Soviet spheres of influence. Of course, you'll tell me that Nazi Germany violated the pact, because Nazis are bad (and the real ones are), but in fact it was Stalin that broke the secret protocol with the annexation of the Northern half of Bukovina (Northern Romania and Ukraine).

The Soviets and the apologists have always been comfortable rewriting history and creating stories. That's what they do and that's what they've always been able to get away with. That's why there continues to be loons that propagate a Ukrainian Nazi myth.

History has clearly shown Soviet propaganda works.

So, Stalin and Hitler agree to split up Europe, Stalin reneges and does his own thing, but then tries to make things better by invading Poland along with the Nazis. Too late, Hitler figures the Soviets are lying scum and comes up with another plan.

The two totalitarians become enemies and the Allies have to pick a side. The lesser of two evils, no doubt, but evil still the same.

The reason we don't call Brits Nazi collaborators is two-fold. One, they didn't collaborate with the Nazis, like the Soviets did, and two, they didn't pull off any despicable war crimes and lie about it for 50 years.

No, ... I think you mixed it up with the Yalta conference in 1945, which was about spheres of influence. 1939 Molotov-Ribbentrop pact however butchered Poland as much as the Munich conference butchered Czechoslovakia a year earlier. No difference.

Who cares. This is about Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

Rational people do. Distortion of history in the news does not help ending this conflict.

Think what you want. The original documents were published on May 31, 2019 and it's a documented fact the Soviets negotiated spheres of influence with the Nazis. Later, the same year the document was signed, the Soviets invaded Poland with the Nazis, albeit from the East. Then they massacred slightly less than 22,000 people, and have lied to the world and blamed it all on the Nazis, until recently.

You know what helps ending this conflict? Putin looking himself in the mirror and asking what is more important, the 1940s or him ordering his troops to stand down. I vote Putin ending his aggressions by agreeing he's spilled enough Russian and Ukraine blood.
