solar houses make more energy than they use at a high latitude than most of Canadas population lives at :smt045

https://www.dwell.com/article/3-in-1-ho ... E3Ew6sFt08

The homes are almost completely powered by rooftop solar panels, and on-site batteries store unused energy that can be sold back to the grid. Additionally, the buildings’ energy consumption is measured on an ongoing basis to adjust for power needs.

Each two-story, 1,600-square-foot structure is composed of six factory-built modules that arrived on-site with finished interiors. Once erected, the facades were connected together to smooth over transitional moments between the homes. Four houses face east-west, while six have a north-south orientation—and all of the roofs are topped with solar panels angled toward the path of the sun.

Canadians should expect more extreme weather this summer, says Global News’ chief meteorologist, after a fast-moving storm resulted in 10 deaths in Ontario and Quebec over the long weekend.

“We’re definitely going to see more thunderstorms throughout the summer,” Anthony Farnell said Tuesday. “I wouldn’t be surprised if we have a more active than normal severe weather season, from the Prairies all the way to the east coast.”

Once the middle class is taxed into poverty, we are still only 1% of the way toward climate change goals.

The energy crisis in Australia caused by the shutdown of coal and higher dependence on renewables and foreign energy are taking a toll. It is so bad, smaller electric suppliers are asking their customers to leave as they go out of business. No one wants to pay $1.04 per kWh. That'll make charging your EV more expensive.

Now that Australia has turned to a new leftist green government, we will watch them enter energy poverty worse than before, higher prices, less competitiveness, higher stupidity. This will eventually run it's course with a disaster.

Hurricane Activity Close To Lowest On Record In Last Year

If global warming is suppose to increase hurricane activity, the data does not show this while news outlets are saying the activity will be above average. The last 12 months we've seen very low hurricane activity in terms of frequency and strength.

[icon_lol2.gif] Perhaps that was because the year before was a record breaking year for Atlantic Hurricane season. I'm thinking Mother Nature needed a break.

Record-breaking Atlantic hurricane season draws to an end
The extremely active 2020 Atlantic hurricane season is drawing to a close with a record-breaking 30 named storms and 11 landfalling storms in the continental United States. While the official hurricane season concludes on November 30, tropical storms may continue to develop past that day.

NOAA’s seasonal hurricane outlooks accurately predicted a high likelihood of an above-normal season with a strong possibility of it being extremely active. In total, the 2020 season produced 30 named storms (top winds of 39 mph or greater), of which 14 became hurricanes (top winds of 74 mph or greater), including seven major hurricanes (top winds of 111 mph or greater). This is the most storms on record, surpassing the 28 from 2005, and the second-highest number of hurricanes on record.

Sure looks like globally the trend is going up.....

2022 Accumulated Cyclone Energy [ACE]
The number of storms have little to do with storm intensity. Not to mention, counting global occurrences is pretty dubious going back to the 1800's don't you think? 1913 had only one global storm/hurricane?

Except the storms in 2020 were more intense and frequent then the record breaking year of 2005....and this is from your link.....
While this statement focuses on the Atlantic Ocean basin, much of the information can be applied to the other ocean basins in a general sense. We present the most up-to-date information on how climate change is expected to impact hurricanes in the future. There are two complementary lines of evidence used to diagnose climate change effects upon hurricanes including (1) historical records of observed activity and (2) computer modeling. Many scientists have dedicated their careers to improve the understanding of hurricanes and published countless papers that help inform the scientific consensus: From the NOAA GFDL website (Link) : "In summary, it is premature to conclude with high confidence that increasing atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations from human activities have had a detectable impact on Atlantic basin hurricane activity, although increasing greenhouse gases are strongly linked to global warming... Human activities may have already caused other changes in tropical cyclone activity that are not yet detectable due to the small magnitude of these changes compared to estimated natural variability, or due to observational limitations."

Regardless of the scientific ability to conclude confidently in every impact of climate change on hurricanes, they will continue to occur and devastate rapidly growing coastal regions. The only proven and practical way to prevent loss of life and property damage is to prepare ahead with improved building codes and maintain a high level of vigilance and resilience in the face of natural disasters. This includes more accurate intensity and track forecasting through advanced numerical weather prediction or weather models.

Note that lack of evidence does NOT mean absence of evidence. It means we currently have incomplete knowledge or inadequate methods and/or observations. We can still have medium to high confidence in an expected outcome based upon fundamental understanding of physics and fluids.

oil is so clean , its going to cost the nl taxpayers 180 million in a secret deal the govt says it wants to keep secret . [icon_lol2.gif] [icon_lol2.gif]

The new owners of the Come By Chance refinery are going to court to block the release of an agreement with the provincial government that could put Newfoundland and Labrador taxpayers on the hook for up to $180 million in environmental liabilities.

CBC News had filed an access-to-information request for those records six months ago.

In a recent report, the province's information and privacy commissioner said the document should be made public, leaving a Newfoundland and Labrador Supreme Court challenge as the last option for the owners to stop that from happening.

we keep hearing from the oil addicts that you cant use solar panels above the equator because not enough sunshine lol , i say oh yea?

Since last October, the Haida carver has been teaming up with brother Gwaai to carve a totem pole in honour of Kaay'ahl Laanas hereditary chief Watson Price (Gaahlaay) at a workshop in Masset powered by 18 solar panels that can generate as much as 40 kWh of electricity a day — enough to fully charge a small electric car.

Edenshaw, a member of the Ts'aahl Eagle Clan, is renowned for his traditional creations, including masks, canoes, and 13-metre high red cedar totem poles that are on display in galleries around the world.

I say if one wants to reduce the CO2 going into the atmosphere, stop the increase in coal fired electrical generation, however it appears to be going the other way :
“Both China and India, the biggest coal-consuming nations, have been ramping up output from mines in recent weeks to ease an autumn energy crisis that caused widespread power shortages and disrupted industrial activity,” Bloomberg Green reported. According to the news agency, the two countries mine 14 million tons of coal per day, and account for 95 per cent of the new coal-fired power plants brought online over the last decade — 444.2 gigawatts (GW) in China, and 113.7 GW in India. "

All this desire for ev's, windy/ solar will help in a micro way and perhaps let some feel good about their contribution to reverse climate change, but good o'l earth needs more.

Read that Europe's move away from coal and gas generated electrical production has been surpassed by India and China's increase in Coal fire generation

Yup! Although, do EVs, wind and solar help in a micro way? Maybe, but not if one includes all the environmental damage caused by wind and solar. They are time wasters and virtue signalers at best. As they say, "without energy density, you require resource intensity".

Renewables have just about reached their peak efficiency too. Turbines can't get much better and either can solar panels. Every time Capt buys a Chinese blood panel (made by slave labour) they have to build a whole new coal fired plant to do it. There is a long break-even point for solar so they need longer and more direct sunlight.

One can't run a country on intermittent renewables. When renewables are built, they also build fossil fuel plants as back up. The sun doesn't always shine, and the wind doesn't always blow.

Back in 2016, Germany increased the number of turbines by 11%, but electrical production dropped 2% because, there wasn't enough wind. Pretty stupid.

Coal use keeps increasing. It is hard to replace coal as an energy and heat source for industry.

One has to admire France for using safe clean nuclear to generate more than 70% of their power. Compared to Germany, France electric rates are half, and France is cleaner without all the goofy renewables. France plans to build 8 more reactors.

Just because the panels have an 40kwh rating does not mean they will generate that amount. In fact, I have been to the Queen Charlotte Islands and know quite well the amount of sunshine they get. Sweet foxtrot alpha.
They will be lucky to average 5kwh per day. Rarely will they ever get the 40kwh per day.
About 32% of possible daylight hours are bright sunshine hours for Sandspit, the only site on the islands with historical info on sunshine.
