It’s time for most of this Council to gracefully leave: too many of them have been keeping their seats warm for too long. Time some some fresh new faces with some imagination and backbone; time for a younger generation who represent the future, not the past; and, most of all, time for a Council that is community-focused and not beholden to special interests.Gone_Fishin wrote: ↑Jun 29th, 2022, 1:25 pm I hope Given tags along with Donn.

You had my vote when you mentioned the need for a ward system and ranked balloting for Mayor: our current system favours the entrenched incumbents and the special interests that back them. You also bring a fresh, younger voice to a Council Chamber that is living proof that not all the dinosaurs went extinct.

Thanks! This means a lot. If nothing else, sitting at council meetings since December has highlighted just how little resident feedback is heard, especially when it comes to council making motions to investigate issues brought before them in public hearings. Having wards will allow residents to have a voice at the table for them and their neighborhood.
The ranked ballot for mayor will also make sure that Kelowna chooses, with at least 50% of the vote, who the mayor will be. No plurality wins. It will take the BC government to do this, but council can lobby for it when submitting ward designs for the next election.

he is not in charge of Our City, but he could become a good advisor to it since Kelowna has been his home for many decades and he has lived and seen the changes since he reported on it.
