What Kelowna really needs is a new Mayor for starters who is not part of the development community.
Governments are for the people, by the people. We should have people from all sorts of backgrounds running things. Webber will do a fine job in city council. He's smart, kind, well read and is an information junkie.

I fully agree too !! those who think they could do a better job should then run for the positions themselves. We need some new blood a long time local is a good thing

With zero leadership experience.

Doubt he's had to make a multi-million dollar decision in his life. We have enough "kind" people on city council and that's why our finances and infrastructure are in the dumpster. Making crap wages at CHBC doesn't mean taxpayers should subsidize retirement income for them.

City Hall is the largest business we have. We need people with business education and experience running it, not a bunch of "kind" people that wouldn't know a budget if it smacked them upside the head.

Governments aren't just for rich people, business people and lawyers to run my friend. It's for EVERYONE. By the people, for the people is what democracy is. Governments are NOT businesses.

The 4 grand I hand them in property taxes every year would prove you 100% incorrect. Again.

The city needs educated, financially-literate, business-experienced people who can take the job of managing and stewarding the $142,000,000/year expenditure of OUR money seriously and competently.

Plugging council seats with incompetent butts is a huge mistake. Look at the dumpster fire we have federally for the trillion dollar proof of that.

What the city needs is a variety of backgrounds and experiences that are representative of the citizens who voted them in. Do you know anything at all about democracy? Governments are not businesses and never will be.

I know lots about democracy.

I also know more than you about finances. That's why I choose people who are competent at their jobs rather than virtue-signaling dopes who can't fulfill their fiduciary duties as elected officials.

The job of mayor and council is to govern the wise use of our tax dollars, not to bankrupt its citizens.

Voting in "TV people" happens across Canada at every election level.........voters see a "face" that is familiar.......they get an "X" in the box. We are currently witnessing a "journalist" thinking she is Canada's finance minister............ZERO, and I mean ZERO qualifications for the position. Prior to this :cuss: ing sack of :cuss: we had Bill Morneau, who by his background (family Actuarial business) should have made a very good finance minister..........NOPE, he :cuss: ed UP BIGTIME!

As far as locals running at the municipal levels, nobody can possibly give any of us all of the answers we want to hear. I put more faith into people that exhibit "street smarts".........which many times can beat a so-called higher education in BS.

And it is simple to weed out applicants simply looking into their background livelihood and asking how do they gain personally from the position.........ie: local Rene Merrifield........looking after and trying to grow her personal business through an attempt in politics.

So very true, but unfortunately they seem to think we have unlimited funds and take it as they please.

That's what we get for electing incompetence. Well, they are competent at emptying our bank accounts to fund hideous "art" and hype "climate emergencies."

And the whole reason we don't elect CoK staff is so that we can get competent people to run the City ... the mayor and council are not meant as "rulers", they are meant to be the representation of real people ... we need thoughtful people who are willing to put in the time to understand how the issues brought to them will actually affect the city ...

Like, for instance, how protecting the city from the dread horror of highway overpasses has resulted in idling at all those intersections.

I agree that we need those type of people on the council, here is the thing though. Those type of people are either making way more than that and those that aren't don't want a job where you can do no right. Someone will complain about any decision you make. If i had those qualifications there would be no way i would subject myself or my family to the abuse they face on a nearly daily basis. Lol heck jus look at some of the comment on the board toward people who are currently or were on council. Total garbage to talk about actual people that way.

personally I think if everyone elected was " no nonsense business like" it would become more about money and nothing else. Having regular local people in the mix would give the decisions better debate.
