Biden admin may offer 2nd Covid booster shot to all adults

The Biden administration is considering a plan that would allow all adults to get a second Covid booster shot, according to a person with knowledge of the plan.

The plan stems from concerns from White House chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci and other top Biden administration officials about the current rise in hospitalizations, fueled by the extremely contagious omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5, the person said.

White House Covid coordinator Dr. Ashish Jha did not confirm the administration would adopt such a plan during a briefing on Tuesday, but said federal health officials have been discussing the possibility of offering boosters for all adults "for a while."

"We have conversations all the time about what are possible things we can be doing to better protect the American people," Jha said. Ultimately, he said such decisions are up to the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Covid hospitalizations have been rising modestly across the United States as the subvariants continue to make up a greater proportion of new cases.

BA.4 and BA.5 — considered the most contagious forms of the virus to date — made up about 70% of all new Covid cases in the U.S. for the week ending July 2, according to the CDC.

Jill Biden apologizes after saying Latinos as unique as 'breakfast tacos'
The National Association of Hispanic Journalists says Biden and her speech writers ought to 'better understand the complexities of our people'

U.S. first lady Jill Biden, whose attempt to compliment Latinos flopped on Monday when she said they were as unique as “breakfast tacos,” issued an apology for the remarks that prompted criticism from across the political spectrum.

“The First Lady apologizes that her words conveyed anything but pure admiration and love for the Latino community,” her spokesperson Michael LaRosa said on Tuesday.

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists on Monday night said Biden and her speech writers ought to “better understand the complexities of our people.”

“We are not tacos. Our heritage as Latinos … should not be reduced to a stereotype,” the association had said.

There's good news from the Biden White House on gas prices

The Biden administration is reeling from gasoline prices that crested to $5 per gallon in June and are still historically high. So are millions of drivers.

But relief may be on the way. During a briefing for reporters on July 12, senior White House officials said a drop in wholesale gas prices suggests retail prices could drop by 50 cents per gallon or so in coming weeks.

“We’ve seen the price of oil fall to a range of $100 per barrel, and we have not yet seen gas prices at the pump fall down to levels consistent with oil prices in that range,” one of the officials said. “That would suggest gas prices in the range of another 50 cents below where they are right now.”

Pump prices peaked in mid-June at around $5.02 per gallon, on average. They’ve since dropped back to about $4.65, according to the American Automobile Association. The White House thinks prices could fall another 50 cents per gallon from there, putting them at $4.15 or so by mid- or late-summer. Retail prices typically lag wholesale prices by a few weeks, as this chart shows:

Soaring gas prices are perhaps the biggest single problem for Joe Biden’s presidency, given the outsized effect gas prices have on consumer attitudes. The spike in gas prices this year has correlated with a plunge in Biden’s approval rating, which is now around 39%, about 3 points lower than Donald Trump's approval rating at the same point in his presidency.\

...

Analysts aren’t sure a fallback in oil and gasoline prices will last. The biggest factor pushing oil prices up now is the Russia-Ukraine war, which could continue for months or years. Europe is trying to cut Russian oil purchases by 90% by the end of the year, which would put upward pressure on prices if Russia can’t find other buyers. Even if some of that oil finds its way to other buyers, a small cut in world oil output can have a big impact on prices, given how tight markets are.

Biden administration announces new strategy to tackle Covid subvariant

Joe Biden’s administration has announced a new strategy to tackle the highly contagious BA.5 coronavirus subvariant amid reports that the government was developing a plan to make second booster shots available to all US adults.

In a fact sheet published on Tuesday the White House said BA.5, a subvariant of the Omicron coronavirus variant, is already responsible for the majority of new Covid-19 cases in the US.

The subvariant, the government said, “has the potential to cause the numbers of infections to rise in the coming weeks”. The US is averaging about 100,000 new coronavirus cases daily, and hospitalizations have been on the rise since April – although they remain below previous peaks.

The White House said it would increase efforts to get more people vaccinated, particularly in areas where BA.5 is spreading most rapidly, and it encouraged Americans to test themselves regularly.

The announcement came as the Washington Post reported that Biden administration officials are working on a plan to make second booster vaccine shots available to adults under age 50 in a bid to tackle BA.5 and BA.4, another highly contagious Omicron subvariant.

For now, adults over 50 and people over 12 who are immunocompromised are eligible for a second booster four months after receiving their first.

The new plan, which is yet to be approved by regulators, “has the backing” of the White House Covid-19 coordinator, Ashish Jha, and the government’s top infectious-disease expert, Anthony Fauci, according to the Post.

The New York Times reported that Fauci in particular has “forcefully argued for broadening eligibility to all younger adults”. Many US adults received their first booster shots in November and December, and their protection could be waning, Fauci told the Times.

About 67% of all Americans are fully vaccinated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But the CDC said only 34.1% of eligible Americans – those age five and older – have received the first booster. Vaccination rates vary widely by state, with states in the south languishing at about 50% of residents fully vaccinated.

BA.4 and BA.5 currently make up 80% of cases in the US, according to the White House, which said BA.5 “may have some increased ability to escape immunity, including from prior infections”.

“It has the potential to cause the numbers of infections to rise in the coming weeks,” the White House said. “Given the rise of BA.5, it is essential that Americans stay up to date on their Covid-19 vaccinations. The science is clear that Covid-19 vaccines remain our single-most important tool to protect people and prevent serious illness, hospitalizations and deaths, and staying up to date on booster shots ensures that people have the highest level of protection possible.”

Jill Biden's Hispanic 'pandering' gaffes channel Joe's 7-Eleven, 'You ain't Black' remarks
A Hispanic journalists association responded, 'We are not tacos'.

First Lady Jill Biden is weathering blowback for what critics saw as pandering gone wrong to the Hispanic community during a speech in Texas.

Mrs. Biden spoke about the "diversity" of the ethnic group, butchering the pronunciation of the word "bodegas" and at one point calling Hispanic Americans "as unique as the breakfast tacos here in San Antonio."

While speaking about the "distinct" bodegas of New York City, Biden mispronounced the word, making it sound similar to Bogota, the capital of Colombia. The remarks came one year after she was criticized for also mispronouncing the slogan "Si Se Puede" during a speech referencing workers' rights activist Cesar Chavez.

On "The Five," host Judge Jeanine Pirro noted President Biden's popularity among Hispanics has cratered since the beginning of his term, arguing they are upset with his open border policies and like most Americans, are feeling the effects of inflation.

"He isn't in favor of protecting the safety and security of the American people as it relates to crime. He's not fighting for gas prices," she said. "Hispanics are no different than the rest of us: They're people. They want to make sure that they've got money in the bank or money at least to pay their bills. And they want food for their kids. They want their kids to be safe."

Pirro said some of the Bidens' "pandering… is bigoted," adding she will not unfairly criticize first lady Jill Biden the same way Melania Trump was.

Biden haters have massive egg on their faces yet again after falling for ridiculously dumb right wing fake news. But when far right conspiracy websites manage to package so many things that the far right hate into one conspiracy - President Biden, China, gas prices, Hunter Biden - it's really no surprise the far right were so easily duped.

Did Biden Sell Millions of Barrels of Oil to China?

In July 2022, social media was full of claims that U.S. President Joe Biden had sold and shipped oil from the country’s emergency oil reserves to China. These claims were often accompanied by accusations holding that Biden was not acting in the country’s best interest. Some claimed that Biden’s alleged shipping of oil to China was keeping gas prices high in the United States. A more fringe set of claims accused Biden of sending oil to China in order to enrich himself and his son, Hunter Biden.

But was any of this true? Did Biden “sell” oil to China? Does exporting oil cause domestic gas prices to rise? And what does Hunter Biden have to do with any of this?

In short, in an attempt to lower gas prices, the United States really did release millions of barrels of oil from a national stockpile, called the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), to be sold on the global market in June 2022. Once this oil was “released,” it went up for auction for energy companies to purchase, and once the oil was purchased, it was shipped around the globe. Among several countries that received the shipments was China. But industry experts noted that this was not unusual; The United States often exports oil to that country, or overseas in general. Also, under federal laws, the government cannot dictate where oil gets shipped once companies purchase it. So while some oil was indeed shipped from the U.S. to China in 2022, this wasn’t directly decided by the Biden administration.

As for Hunter Biden’s connection to these rumors, the president’s son used to be a member of an equity firm that once purchased a stake in an oil company owned by the Chinese government. In 2022, that company, Sinopec, purchased oil from the above-mentioned U.S. oil reserve, the SPR, via its American-based company, Unipec. However, Hunter was no longer a member of the equity firm at the time of that sale, and there was no evidence that Sinopec received oil via the SPR for any other reason than it submitted one of the highest bids to pay for its barrels.

SNIP

In July 2022, conservative news outlets such as the Federalist published articles claiming that President Biden sold oil to a Chinese-owned company connected to his son, Hunter. These articles were based on a fact (Unipec America Inc., a company with connections to the Chinese-government, indeed purchased some of the oil released by the SPR in 2022), some cherry-picked information (Hunter used to be a member of an equity firm that invested in Sinopec, the Chinese branch of Unipec), and plenty of assumptions.

Another example that proves why President Biden is so much better and more effective than his embarrassing predecessor.

Tell your average hardcore Democrat: "There's been no significant policy difference between the Trump Administration and the Biden Administration on COVID response" Watch their eyes bulge and steam come out of their ears until their heads explode.

There have been approximately 200,000 reported COVID deaths in the US since the beginning of 2022, but that figure is no longer being flashed everywhere on the news now that Trump is gone.

The Trump parallels are everywhere. Here's Joe being asked about his low poll numbers, and about why most Democrats want him to bow out in 2024. He attacks the reporter and basically calls them fake news. Remember how Trump was so hated for doing that? Him and Jim the idiot Acosta? Now here's this senile old fool doing the same thing, and it's "totally ok" because of course, he's not calling the WaPo and CNN fake news. It's just all so dumb.

BTW - Biden looks like such a fool in this video. This guy isn't "presidential" at all. And that's the facts, Jack.
