Vintage, Antique and other Useless Junk
Let's give this new topic a try.
Got any old and interesting junk hanging around?
Packing and unpacking during our recent move yielded an array of interesting items, all of which we knew about but hadn't seen in ages.
And no, some of this junk is not getting thrown away.
An old pair of binoculars.
Brand is SPORTIERE PARIS. Next up, a nightlight. It sat beside my bed when I was 5 or 6. And yes, it still works.

Re: Vintage, Antique and other Useless Junk
Here's a couple of old beer bottles I found at an old logging camp site. We were working above Clowhom Lake, at the back end of Salmon Inlet.
One bottle is labeled PROPERTY OF SILVER SPRING BREWERY LTD. VICTORIA, B. C.
The other is labeled VICTORIA-PHOENIX BREWING CO. LTD. VICTORIA B. C.
A little digging and it appears these bottles are about a hundred year sold.
Not much else left from my early days working in the bush. I had an old Silva compass, gave it to my grandkids.

Here's an old iron. Late '40s I believe.
Made by SAMSON-UNITED.
Style 5000N
Volts 115
Watts 1000
And it works too.

I can just see Bsuds claiming she's the antique and he's "vintage."
But seriously that's all really cool stuff, I like glass so the bottles really resonate.

As WW3 develops, no one is going to be dissing the "preppers." What have you done?

Now these are really neat. You gardeners will be envious.
They were awarded to my mother's grandfather. He lived from 1820 to 1889.
The one on the left, which I have been polishing says,
1st prize
For the best
COLLECTION of ROOTS
5 Acres of Swedes, 5 Acres of Turnips
and 2 Acres of Marigolds
Grown on one Farm with Lawes
MANURES
Presented to Mr. Wm. xxxx
POTTERS HILL, LEAFIELD WITNEY
by Mr. Wm. Hemming
Standlake Mills
12 Nov, 1874
The other one, in need of polish is dated Oct. 30, 1873.
And it has a glass bottom.

I love the binoculars, an the loving cups (think that is what they are called?)
These are some of my books. The oldest are "The Mysteries of the Court of London". The are a printing of a penny dreadful that date back to around 1840-1850.

Re: Vintage, Antique and other Useless Junk
It needed cleaning anyway, so brought it down for a good washing. Belonged to my Icelandic grandma and have no idea how she got to own it..made in Japan, ceramic, not fancy or precious. I estimate its age between 100-150 years. Just a fun thing she had and never used, not a chip or stain of tea.
Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

Re: Vintage, Antique and other Useless Junk
Wife and I cleaned out and moved our Safe-deposit box junk this week.
A stack of interesting papers including a couple of BCRIC shares, but this really had me pleading for my life while she stood there with a Wusthof knife.
"What the hell is this?
It's four years before we met!"
BUSTED.

Re: Vintage, Antique and other Useless Junk
Back to the really old stuff.
Here's a set of books I inherited many years ago.
The History of England. Four volumes covering the period B. C. 55 to A. D. 1868.
They were in rough shape at the time but I found someone who could recover them, and they did an excellent job.
Each volume is signed by my paternal grandfather with his name, living at Silver street, The Groves, York, June, 1878.

A couple of pictures from the first volume.
I'll post more info on them later.
These are typical of that Era.
