The flamboyant Lady Meux.

Lady Valerie Meux was probably one of the most eccentric persons to have stayed in the area. She had a high phaeton pulled by zebras, a roller skating rink at home and collected almost 2,000 Egyptian artifacts. She and her husband Sir Henry Meux were tenants of Alladale in the late 1800s.

^^^ interesting tidbit of info in the link. One of her Egyptian artifacts was a mummy that went to the Atlantic Ocean bottom. It was being shipped to USA via the Titanic.

Abigail Adams was one of only two women to have been both wife and mother to two U.S. presidents (the other being Barbara Bush). Often separated from her husband due to his political work, the self-educated Abigail oversaw the family’s household and largely raised their four children on her own, all the while maintaining a lively lifelong correspondence with her husband on the political issues of the day. She was also famous for her early advocacy of several divisive causes, including women’s rights, female education and the abolition of slavery.

The Buck Ruxton "Jigsaw Murders" case.

On September 14, 1935, Buck Ruxton, an Indian-born physician who lived in Lancashire, near the English-Scottish border, murdered his wife Isabella and her maid Mary Rogerson, and then mutilated their bodies and scattered the parts, in an effort to make them unidentifiable.

A total of 106 men were killed in the attack. Among them were three sailors (Ronald Endicott, Clifford Olds and Louis Costin), who survived in an airtight storeroom until 23 December, according to a calendar found by salvage crews on which sixteen days had been crossed off in red pencil.
