We had somethig similar on the Westside a few years ago and they went out of business.

Costco site would make an awesome roller rink!

Wholesale Sports was a company from Alberta that closed because they couldn't compete with giant American superstores like Bass Pro and Cabela's.

Sail or Simons could do well in that space also. But they tend to stick to opening stores in bigger cities.

Seeing that we have neither of those then it should have been able to make a go of it here.

They change the Maze seasonally or annually. Every time I go in the Coquitlam store the layout is different.

I heard that it is slated for homeless housing - early 2023. Still need some permits and rezoning.
At least there will be lots of parking for carts, which is a plus over downtown!

Given that the average IKEA is 25,000 sqr ft and the Old Costco is considerably bigger than that, who knows? The Cabela's in Abbotsford is $70,000 sqr ft. Mind you, They'd likely need to tear down part of the store to accommodate parking...especially in such a vehicle centric region as this.

about 300,000 square feet
A traditional IKEA store covers an area of about 300,000 square feet on average, equivalent to the size of five football fields. Naturally, most of its stores have to be built outside of city centers.

My bad, yeah the store in Coquitlam in 300,000 sqr ft. The article I read had the metric as ft. That said, they are moving to a smaller store model where they see the value in it. There's one in Queens that is 115,000 sqr ft and the new store in downtown Toronto is 66,000 sqr ft.
