Canada culpable too on mistreatment of allied fighters, to our shame and embarrassment.
Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

As soon as they can find a way to blame Harper, the media in this country will finally get around to covering that shame and embarrassment. Talk about disgusting.

1st Special Service Force
“The Worst is Yet to Come”
The 1st Special Service Force was a joint special operations unit made up of Canadian and American military forces.
These mountain warfighting specialists raised hell for the Nazis, fighting battles in brutal environments. They often patrolled deep behind enemy lines, and when they did, they would leave stickers behind with a message written in German that translated to “The Worst is Yet to Come” across the unit’s arrowhead crest.
------
-----
Imagine being a Jerry and finding this sticker 100 miles behind your lines. The enemy got that close to you and left a sticker behind to taunt you.
As far as unit mottos go, this one is terrifying to the enemy and so much more effective because the men disbursing it were true badasses.

And a quote from above,
An order was found on another prisoner that stated that the Germans in Anzio would be "fighting an elite Canadian-American Force. They are treacherous, unmerciful and clever. You cannot afford to relax. The first soldier or group of soldiers capturing one of these men will be given a 10-day furlough."[28]
An interesting sidenote.
Not long ago a cousin of my wife discovered that his father had been one of the Black Devils, or Devil's Brigade. He always knew his father had been in WW2 and in the Canadian Army, but not to that extent.

Re: They fought for our freedom
Back in the late 60's while coming out of anesthetic after an operation- the nurse came out of the recovery room and said to me, your Mom seems agitated and keeps asking "get Jerry get Jerry", and nurse asked me if I knew who Jerry was? I explained Jerry was the German sniper who had (during WWII) all the hospital she served in, pinned-down for days. The nurse just quietly said to me Oh, ok, Thanks, as she turned to return to caring for Mom.
And while caring for my Mom during her tender years (as I call them) she reacted strongly when hearing the water planes overhead during the big fire of 2003. Every time she heard that sounds of the emergency aircraft, she tremored and trembled. I went to calm her once and she gave me ‘that look” and shook her head at me indicating NO, leave me alone, I’m ok- am just reacting. I respected her requested privacy wish, and kept a close eye on her from a-distance.
During my time caring for her in the Okanagan, one of my jobs was to periodically clean-out the skin craters on her back from chards of glass from a blasted-out window. When the bomb hit; she dove over her patients to protect them and she took the glass in he back.
Her brother who also was a WWII vet (lied about his age and went over when he was 16,) suffered long after he returned to Canada. When helping him clean-up his brother's estate home, Uncle Cliff got very drunk, started to weep and recounted to me (for quite some time) some of the horrors he lived through during WWII.
It’s not just what was endured overseas, but the trauma, lasting scares- both physical and emotional, that so many Vets carry their lifetime, even though many never speak or complain of it,
And I openly say here- this is the case for all from being in the theater of war and military actions, both sides, all, military and civilian.
The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place. – George Bernard Shaw

Re: They fought for our freedom
Here's a great story of a Canadian platoon that held off overwhelming odds and ended up having the Germans surrender to them.

The Canadians, led by Lt. Mitchell Sterlin, were badly outnumbered on 'Slaughterhouse Hill.' Despite the odds, the enemy surrendered

Re: They fought for our freedom
Here's another great Canadian soldier, Ernest Alvia "Smokey" Smith.
A member of the Seaforth Highlanders out of Vancouver, and recipient of the Victoria Cross.

My late father-in-law was in the same Company as Smokey Smith. Not sure if he knew Smokey or not but he too carried a PIAT up the entire length of Italy. Not a light weight weapon to carry, especially for the smallest guy in his platoon. I think he was about 5'6".

I can't trust the words that come from Liberals...
Censorship may lead to lack of information and subsequent development of apathy, ignorance, conformism and general stagnation. It may threaten democracy and encourage subversive activities.
