I’m considering getting an ebike for commuting to work and back. I might go on trails too. I don’t want to spend more than $3k. Have you bought an ebike lately? What were your major considerations? What did it cost? Are you happy with it and recommend it?

Bought two from Kelowna Eride. Sheldon was great to deal with.

Dealt with Lucian yesterday . Not only was he awesome , but two other CSR's asked if we were being taken care of while he was searching for what we asked for . During that time , we were lucky enough to listen to an E bike sales tech help a customer pick out what would be best for them ..

INCLUDING warranty .

They're the best bet IMO .

A friend bought one there a couple years ago, about the cheapest bicycle styled
e-bike they offered.
He now has just over 8000kms on it and all it has needed is tires and brakes.

I'd call that a win in his column.

Personally, I still struggle with the price point on them.

I've paid less for brand new motorcycles.

But maintenance on said motorcycles cost more, the fuel to run them cost more, the injuries riding them could've cost more ...

E-bikes have started to be recognized as car replacements for many people ... and that price point difference is a lot larger ...

It looks like I'm finally going to have to dive into the e-bike research, my wife came up with the idea that they would help rent an AirBnB she manages and I agree ... just think about coming to Kelowna, being able to park the car, and just ride an e-bike everywhere ... oh this is going to be a fun project :)

I sure would appreciate your opinion on this one that seems to top my list so far.

It checks all the boxes, dual suspension, fat tire (better in snow), powerful,
hydraulic disk brakes, aesthetically pleasing, etc.

A grand more than I was looking at spending, but a few grand less than
many not so well outfitted.

Well, majority I've seen are from there. Any I've seen made in N.America are
more than double the price

The fact that they don't actually specify the components makes it highly questionable ... with fat tires I don't think there is much of a need for suspension, even my plusbike with 3" tires doesn't have any suspension and it rides fine on single track ...

About the only mail order bikes I'd put in my garage come from Canyon or Rad ... the RadRover 6 Plus is cheaper, has front suspension and 4" tires ... take a look at the page and this is the level of detail that I require when comparing bikes:

The 6 looks like a good one, My view on suspension is due to being plagued with
chronic physical ouchies not prone to harsh bumps.
Suspension ? Good !
I live rural, most riding on gravel surfaces (rail trail), dirt single track short cuts.
Nice to have the option of winter riding which gets rather bumpy as discovered
on my reg. dual suspension bike, still somewhat of a hurtful ride.
Price is surprisingly good as compared to many others I've looked at.

My understanding of some nuances suffer though. Some require pedaling with electric assist.
Some will run without pedal assist, electric only.
Not sure where this one falls.
Is 500w plenty ? Thought it sounded on the light side.

I appreciate your feedback and it plays well into my finds to what fits me.

Ah, in that case suspension can make a difference ... I try not to be an ableist but sometimes I make mistakes ... there are some seat post suspension systems that could work in place of the more costly rear-suspension

A 500w motor is pretty good, shouldn't make you feel underpowered ... and yes, the 6 Plus does have both a throttle for just ripping along and pedal-assist to extend the battery life ...

Sure seems that the Rad 6 you pointed out tops about every review and comparison
done as of yet.
I have come across a couple capable of up to 110Kph a bit pricey too.

Thanks again for having a guiding hand in helping navigate what to look for, and to
familiarize what component brands are looked upon more favourably.

I’m a huge fan of the Rad Rover… you won’t be disappointed if you go with one.

And after having a bike with a throttle there’s no way I’d get one without one! It’s beautiful to have when getting going after stopping! It’s a game changer for me.

Andrew at Velofix is also a local expert on Rad bikes and can help with setup and maintenance if you need it.
