Biden family stockings omit Hunter's out-of-wedlock daughter for second year in a row
Hunter Biden initially denied being the father, claiming in a 2021 memoir that he had no recollection of meeting the mother

The Biden White House has officially hung its Christmas stockings, but the holiday decorations are absent one family member: Hunter Biden’s out-of-wedlock daughter.

First Lady Jill Biden displayed the decorations on Monday, writing that the White House hopes "to capture the spirit embodied in the very of America: We the People."

The nine stockings above the White House fireplace include the president’s son Hunter, his ex-wife Kathleen Buhle and their three daughters: Naomi, Finnegan, and Maisy. It also includes Noami’s new husband, Peter Neal, as well the two children of the president’s late son Beau and his widow, Hallie.

Not included, for the second year in a row, in the family line-up was Hunter Biden’s four-year-old daughter Navy Jones Roberts, whom he had with former stripper Lunden Roberts in 2018.

It's that special time of year when conservatives stupidly act like they're not allowed to say Merry Christmas.

Biden administration to co-host second democracy summit next year

The United States will co-host a second “Summit for Democracy” next year, the White House has announced, with the goal of strengthening democratic institutions and fighting corruption around the world.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Biden administration said the event on March 29 and 30 would be co-hosted by Costa Rica, the Netherlands, South Korea and Zambia.

“During the ‘Year of Action’ following the first Summit for Democracy in December 2021, the United States and over 100 partner governments around the world have taken meaningful steps to build more resilient democracies, combat corruption and defend human rights,” the statement said.

“Summit participants have undertaken important pro-democracy reforms at home, contributed to impactful multilateral initiatives, and worked together to resist authoritarian aggression, including Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified war against Ukraine.”

US President Joe Biden gathered more than 100 world leaders during the inaugural summit on December 9 and 10, 2021, urging world leaders to “lock arms” to bolster democracy and prevent a “backward slide” from continuing.

Biden made a similar plea in the leadup to the US midterms earlier this month, telling Americans that democracy was “on the ballot” amid election denialism and the violence such false claims have inspired in the country.

The first “Summit for Democracy” took place at the end of a tumultuous year that saw supporters of former President Donald Trump storm the US Capitol in an effort to stop Congress from certifying Biden’s election victory.

Trump, who has announced a bid to seek the presidency again in 2024, has continued to parrot his false election fraud claims, which a sizeable portion of US voters still believe.

Biden’s attempt to be a leader in promoting global democracy despite a backslide in trust in US democratic institutions has raised questions among some observers.

“We have a real crisis of credibility with the US, as Joe Biden would have it, taking its seat at the head of the table and discussing democracy,” Daniel Adler, general coordinator at Progressive International, told Al Jazeera’s The Bottom Line programme last year.

no they didn't. Biden and the Dems have ensured democracy in America will continue under threat until his senile butt is finally kicked out of the White House.

Yup, they absolutely did, which is likely one of the reasons they humiliated Republicans so badly in the midterms

Biden, Macron vow to hold Russia accountable for Ukraine 'war crimes'

U.S. President Joe Biden on Thursday used the first state visit of his presidency to demonstrate unity with France's Emmanuel Macron on Ukraine, show willingness to speak to Russia's Vladimir Putin and assuage European anger over U.S. subsidies.

The president and First Lady Jill Biden were holding a sumptuous, star-studded White House state dinner, featuring music from Jon Batiste, and Chardonnay from the Napa Valley, in honour of President Macron and his wife, Brigitte.

But Ukraine, the biggest attack on a European state since 1945, remained the most pressing issue for the leaders, who vowed to continue robust support and to back Kyiv during the tough winter months.

Biden has so far resisted talking to Putin since the Russian leader launched the invasion in February, while Macron has kept lines of communication with Putin open. Russia calls the war a "special operation."

"Let me choose my words very carefully," Biden told a news conference with Macron. "I'm prepared to speak with Mr. Putin if in fact there is an interest in him deciding he's looking for a way to end the war. He hasn't done that yet."

Macron, for his part, said he would continue to talk to Putin to "try to prevent escalation and to get some very concrete results" such as the safety of nuclear plants.

The two leaders also sought ways to ease some economic tensions in Oval Office talks.

Biden pledged to Macron to make changes to U.S. legislation that passed the U.S. Congress this year that European nations fear will harm their economies. Bills aimed at boosting U.S. renewable energy and the semiconductor industry have "glitches" that can be addressed, Biden said.

Macron raised French and European concerns about subsidies in Biden's Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), a $430-billion US bill that offers massive subsidies for U.S.-made products and is aimed at addressing the climate crisis and promoting renewable energy.

At a meeting on Wednesday with U.S. lawmakers, Macron said the act was "super aggressive" toward European companies, one participant told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

"France did not come here to ask for some kind of exception for its economy. We came to share how the consequences of this regulation impact us," he said on Thursday.

European leaders say the legislative package signed by Biden in August is unfair to non-American companies and would be a serious blow to their economies as Europe deals with the fallout from Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

"There are tweaks that we can make that can fundamentally make it easier for European countries to participate and or be on their own," said Biden, who said he and Macron had a long discussion about the topic.

Macron said it was important for the United States and its European allies to "re-synchronize" their approaches.

The leaders made "major progress" on how to alleviate the impact, and Biden could use executive orders to give European allies the same level of exemptions on local content as countries with free-trade deals, a French finance ministry source said.
