Might be time surveillance cameras were aimed at the card racks to catch the crooks.
Agreed.

Shoppers (owned by Justin's pals at Loblaw) sold the consumer a defective product.

If you bought a bottle of Aspirin and found that the it had already been emptied by a thief in the store, it's not your loss, it's the failure of the store to provide a merchantable product. It's right in the Sale of Goods Act - you contracted the store to sell you the item for which you tendered payment.
Duties of seller and buyer

I get pre paid cards occasionally for any and ALL on line purchases I make and I vet the cards before I pay ..

Sad that I have to do it rather than the vendor .

How long could it possibly take to train someone to be on the watch for a sticker over the bar code?

They are selling the product so it's on them to ensure it's legit and their customers aren't getting ripped off.

I would think that they should also be able to scan the purchased card, to ensure it is worth what was paid, before the customer even leaves the store.
it shouldn't be hard to train them to look for this but the problem is staff just wont do it consistently just like most never checked signatures on credit cards. Its a fact.... sad but true.

Of course now with “Tap” on both debt and CC.
It’s up to card owner to keep and eye on the account.

This why any withdrawal of $50 plus I get a notification via email.

They should start selling them from behind the counter.

Wouldn't it be too late by then? The scammer would already have the money.

Why would anyone check a signature when they have nothing to compare it to?

I think they are talking about back when we had to sign for purchases with a CC.

I had to check the gift cards I purchased from the mall. Since they are handled by staff directly and not on a rack, I suppose they are relatively safe. I don’t see or feel any ‘stickers’ applied after-a-use. Unless store employees are also in on the scams.

I see fake barcode scams articles going back to 2017, possibly earlier. The draw-back of reloadable cards I suppose. Is there a technological solution?
