And don't conflate your privilege (not freedom) to idle your vehicle with our right to a clean future. Change is coming. Suck it up.

How much will global temperatures decrease by banning idling in Kelowna?

How much will global temperatures decrease by banning idling in Canada?

For reference, CO2 makes up 0.04% of our atmosphere.

Just the number, please.

"In fact, if Canadian motorists avoided idling for just three minutes every day of the year, CO2 emissions could be reduced by 1.4 million tonnes annually. This would be equal to saving 630 million litres of fuel and equivalent to taking 320,000 cars off of the road for the entire year. Eliminating unnecessary idling is one easy action that Canadians can take to reduce their GHG emissions that are contributing to climate change."

A car with a properly charged and spec'd battery will start from dead cold, even at -30.

yes and the oil is sitting thick in the bottom of the oil pan and needs to heat up to reach proper viscosity

Has it ever occurred to you that to a large majority of Canadians, reducing CO2 emissions does not sit very high on their priority list?

A proper spec oil, preferably synthetic will do just fine.

Correct, .. but the real question is, what does it do to your engine, without warming it up first? Basically, at these temperatures, the oils is so thick, that lubrication lubrication is at a bare minimum, if not less. And you are suggesting you could just take off and rev it up, instantly? Nice!

That is true. 0W20, for example.

No, it won't. What do you think is the reason behind every vehicle here in Canada to have a block heater installed? Why would a manufacturer do that?

And the block heater runs, ... on what? And what if you don't have an easy access to power, like many motorists don't? Perhaps, get a gas genset to power the heater?

I know it's hard for "know it alls" on forums to educate themselves, but when it takes less than a minute on google to either confirm or disprove what you think you know, you should still do so.

Well, let's see .. in BC we source most of our electricity from hydroelectricity, which is a renewable resource .. vs burning fossil fuels to warm up oil that is already spec'd for our climate. M'kay.

You see, .. that's another misconception very common among anti-oil crusaders. The fact is, our grid is not isolated. It's interconnected with other jurisdictions into a larger grid. So, you don't really know where your electricity is coming from. It could be from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Washington, Alaska, .. or local.
