5 shot dead and at least 3 injured. In a synagogue on the Sabbath. Devastating for so many.

Random murdering of groups of people via by guns or vehicles appears to be acceptable by government.
It will continue to happen, my condolences to anyone effected by this senseless.

Hmm and yet with over 393 MILLION guns in the USA you would think there would be more shootings.

But lets look at the recent shootings details in this article someone posted. and of course its by an Australian so they will be biased right off the start.
The first was a suspected gang-related attack in Goshen, central California, on January 16 in which six people died, including a 17-year-old mother and her six-month-old baby.
Ok so it was Gang-related and occurred in the strictest gun control states in the USA. Given the gangs were probably felons they probably werent allowed to own the guns given the states gun laws.
The second was Saturday night’s rampage in the predominantly Asian neighbourhood of Monterey Park, where 11 people were killed and nine others injured after a gunman opened fire at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio.
Asian man went on a rampage. Doesnt say if the guns were legally purchased but one could argue that a good guy with a gun could have stopped this guy before more people were killed.

And the third took place on Monday at a mushroom farm and nearby site in the coastal city of Half Moon Bay. Seven people were slain in what authorities described as a tragic case of “workplace violence”.
Ok so disgruntled employee. We saw something similar to this happen on vancouver island a few years ago. Even with our strict gun control laws, there will always be some wacko that wants to cause mayhem.

Here is how I can tell the writer doesnt know what he is talking about:
But much bigger reforms, such as banning assault weapons or introducing universal background checks, have little chance in the current divided Congress.
Obtaining an actual "assault rifle" or what gun professionals would more accurately and correctly call "Machine Guns" in the USA isn't easy and is about the same process as obtaining an RPAL here in Canada. An AR15 is not an assault rifle. It does not have a selectable firing rate, It is not made to military specs and it is designed for sport shooting and medium game hunting.

Secondly, Universal Background Checks are already being done every day in the USA by the ATF. You cannot be a felon, have a domestic assault charge, or have any violent or mental health history to purchase a gun.

Australia just had a mass shooting................
Context and factual information are important.
December 2022 the police attended a property investigating a missing person complaint and were fired upon by the occupants of the house.
This was a police matter that went south badly, not a mass shooting where a wackjob went looking for trouble and seeking people to shoot.

This tragic event took place 26 YEARS after an actual mass shooting in Australia, Port Arthur, after which they banned many gun types.

How many mass shooting has USA had in the last 26 years, or 26 months, or 26 days?

While everyone is arguing about the guns, this just keeps happening.

https://www.castanet.net/news/World/408 ... a-shooting

https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/28/us/los-a ... index.html

So add that to this this list:

https://www.gunviolencearchive.org/repo ... s-shooting,

if you look at both pages, realize there are 42 reports and it's not the end of January yet. Also know that not every shooting makes it to the news here, which may give an unrealistic idea of how many shootings happen. In other words, you may think there are fewer.

Almost thirty nine thousand dead people and thousands more injured seriously in motor vehicle crashes in 2020 in the USA and nobody complains. Some were suicide, some vehicular homicides , some mass killing by van or truck. Motor vehicles are used in sexual assaults and kidnappings and transporting stolen goods and illicit drugs that kill thousands more. Nobody complains about that. Why not? Because people love their vehicles and consider them a necessity even though there are other means of transportation. Our cars a trucks even cause heart disease because people do not walk like they used to. I suppose there are some people who do see the carnage and choose to ride buses or bicycles. All the rest of smug automobile drivers look down their collective noses and attack innocent gun owners who also love to hunt and shoot, pretending they are better. Maybe they should look in the mirror with their judgemental prejudice.

OK So respond to my latest post above:

Ok so it was Gang-related and occurred in the strictest gun control states in the USA. Given the gangs were probably felons they probably werent allowed to own the guns given the states gun laws.

So even with strict gun control its almost impossible to stop a crazy lunatic hell-bent on killing people. unless a good guy with a gun is there when the bad guy starts firing.

Or a six year old shooting a teacher. Maybe if the teacher had a gun she could have shot back?
Point being, you don't have to be crazy to shoot at someone. Get rid of guns meant to kill PEOPLE.
