Advanced Military Science - When your top general is publicly stating that your proxy has no chance of achieving its stated objectives (diplomatically of course, but thats the message) maybe take another look at the whole "as long as it takes" thing.

I agree that the US would potentially launch a nuclear war to save face. Hopefully they clear out Biden, Nuland and the rest before it gets to that

I don't think he went that far, but this is an interesting development...
Xi Jinping invited the leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in May for the "first China-Central Asia Summit" - AFP
Damn, that's cold, if you ask me. The body still has a heartbeat and Xi's already picking at the pieces.

Xi hasn't even left Moscow. *slap*

It's still the Sarmat RS 28 that seems to get the Russian propagandists the most excited. Not sure about your calculations on the Iskander. I understand the intermediate range Iskander uses a R-500 secondary booster (9M728 - if you want to google, or yandex it) and that reduces the payload down to 500 kg. It will travel around 500 km's with a tactical warhead, roughly 10 - 50 kT.

Still enough to ruin your whole day, if they toss it at you.

They have another secondary booster, with far more range and roughly the same payload (9M729), but I've been led to believe that's been the source of 2 of the recent setbacks Putin has suffered. (The latest being the day before his big address that turned out to be a two hour long complete nothing burger.)

So far, the most commonly used warhead on the Zircon appears to be concrete. :smt045 But, that's not to be laughed at, as it is fast, too fast and not very accurate. So if they toss it at a tactical target, who knows what it actually hits. The payload is smaller than the Iskander due to the intake on the bottom of the missile and the sharper nose. I think I read somewhere around a 200 kg.

FWIW... I'm still living my life based on the premise that Putin's daddy Xi has learned one Russian word for his visit to Moscow and he's going to use it very clearly around the topic of tactical nukes. "Nyet".

"Military Today" for most of the specs I've looked at. They could be wrong, but often are not.

In other news...

This is why you don't drink Vladimir Solovyov's tea before going on air in Russia. Good thing he wasn't standing by a window...

Just working our what kind of yields will be used for thier west front. They are running low on Iskanders possibly less than 100 left. Pretty sure it doesn't have
' dial a yield'.
I have to correct a sloppy mistake.
It will come via mig 31 and a Khinzahl not a Zircon missile. Zircon is sea launched( probably not off the table either). I got my nukes crosswired.
Some may view my politically incorrect opinions as harsh and may be offended by them. Some think political correctness will be our undoing.

Fear not. Zircon is soon to be on a ground launched system too.
"The prototype of a mobile launcher of a coastal defense missile system, using a Tsirkon hypersonic missile, has already been created. As was the case with the Bastion system, the launcher will carry two missiles,...
...

One of the sources said that the new system, just like its predecessor Bastion that employs Oniks [english name Onyx P-800] missiles, will have the capacity to strike both ground-based and sea targets."

News...

There isn't much out of Bakhmut and hasn't been for days. About the only news is a news embargo. Still, a regular report I watch, managed to post a few seconds in place of his usual 3 minute report that he does everyday. I think he's saying something by not saying anything, but you be the judge.

Safe to say everyone is reading Moscow's mail this morning. Not particularly unusual, but a little more active and a little further north than I've noticed in the last month.

They are never going to get the smell of Kentucky Fried Chicken out of these two Boeing 747's heading back to Beijing this morning. Xi and crew are on their way home across the empty skies of Russia.

One has to wonder, given the almost complete lack of anything substantial out of Xi's visit, if the whole trip wasn't to size up Mikhail Mishustin, whom he did make time to meet with yesterday.

The radio and television story playing at the top of the hour in Crimea this morning is telling people not to panic. (If I was there I'd probably take this as a sign it's approaching time to panic.) There was an attack on Sevastopol. Not a whole lot of details, but a couple very heavy explosions and it's reported they were hit by both aerial and marine drones. Again, nothing particularly new about this, careless smokers have been causing havoc in Crimea for days now. Yesterday it was the rail connection in Dzhankoy and a freight train carrying Kalibr cruise missiles.

Interesting article in The Atlantic today, "Ron DeSantis is right about Ukraine", gives a good rundown of the backstory, and stupidity and recklessness of the Biden/Nuland policy.

There is at least a strong contrarian current gathering strentgh in the US. That plus continued Russian battlefield dominance should bring this to a close by summer/fall.

Did you see Zs visit to Bakhmut? Im sorry, seeing a bunch of shell shocked senior citizens with glazed eyes doesn't bode well for Ukraine.

Who doesn't love a good list? The top five Russian disinformation narratives...
Theme #1: “Russia is an Innocent Victim”

Russian government officials falsely portray Russia as a perpetual victim and its aggressive actions as a forced response to the alleged actions of the United States and our democratic allies and partners.

Theme #2: Historical Revisionism

When history does not align with the Kremlin’s political objectives, Russian government officials and their proxy voices deny historical events or distort historical narratives to try to cast Russia in a more favorable light and serve its domestic and geopolitical agenda. For example, the 1939 non-aggression pact between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany, also known as the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, which helped precipitate World War II, is politically inconvenient for the Putin regime.

Theme #3: “The Collapse of Western Civilization is Imminent”

Russia pushes the false claim that Western civilization is collapsing and has strayed from “traditional values” because it works to ensure the safety and equality of LGBTQI+ people and promotes concepts such as female equality and multiculturalism.

Theme #4: “Popular Movements are U.S.-sponsored ‘Color Revolutions’”

The Kremlin has difficulty accepting that all individuals should have the human right to freedom of expression, and that the government should be accountable to its people. Russia has accused the United States of either instigating uprisings or plotting “color revolutions” in Georgia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Ukraine, and throughout the Middle East and Africa.

Theme #5: Reality is Whatever the Kremlin Wants It to Be

The Kremlin frequently tries to create multiple false realities and insert confusions into the information environment when the truth is not in its interests. Often intentionally confusing, Russian officials make arguments designed to try to shift the blame away from the Russian government’s role, even if some of the narratives contradict one another.

OH MY GOD - USA WILL NOT ALLOW PEACE
Stinkin Blinken is against a ceasefire
In an effort to get ahead of any possible progress toward peace in Ukraine that might come of Chinese Premier Xi Jinping’s visit to Moscow, White House spokesman John Kirby insisted that no ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia could possibly happen, with Secretary of State Antony Blinken going so far as to say a cessation of hostilities would violate the U.N. charter!

Give any consideration to Russia go back to their side of the border between it and Ukraine for the war to stop??

Pretty sure that would work with much applause from the world, including China.

Why was Hunter Biden all up in Ukraine?

Why did Joe Biden brag that he got the AG fired that was investing the company his son was sitting on the board of?

Russia isn't invading Ukraine.

They are kicking the USA out of Ukraine.

And I have a bridge to sell you.. maybe even the Eiffel tower..

You believe Russians firing missiles into apartment blocks, hospitals, churches is the way to get the US out of Ukraine? Fake elections to absorb Ukrainian towns and cities into the Russian sphere of influence is the way to kick the US out of Ukraine?
Moving Ukrainian children to Russia is sure to send the US running... [icon_lol2.gif]

Pootin miscalculated gravely in believing Russia could run slipshod over Ukraine to contain it under corrupt Russian sphere of influence. Guess what, Ukraine would rather lean to western values and are fighting to do just that. Much to pootin's chagrin.
